Project Name:PELO Connect: Empowering Road Safety and insurance Claims
Name of the organization submitting the proposal: Promotion of Education Link Organization (PELO)
Project Description:
PELO Connect is a pilot project designed to enhance road safety education and streamline insurance claim processes for road accident victims in Tanzania using innovative technologies, including blockchain. Over a three-month period, the project will implement audiovisual content and a blockchain-based application to address key challenges in consumer rights education and insurance claims management.
Activities
- Engage Key Stakeholders:In the first month, PELO Connect will engage with the Tanzania Bus Owners’ Association, LATRA (Land Transport Regulatory Authority), relevant government ministries, and inclusive education community groups to build partnerships, gather insights, and ensure broad support for the initiative.
- Develop Audiovisual Content:Simultaneously, the project will hire animators to create engaging and informative audiovisual messages. These messages will be displayed on public transport buses to educate passengers on their consumer rights and road safety.
- Build Blockchain-Based Technological Infrastructure: An IT company will be hired to develop a website and a mobile application, PELO TUNAKUJALI, incorporating blockchain technology. The blockchain will be used to securely manage and track insurance claims, ensuring transparency, reducing processing times, and enhancing user control over their data.
- Pilot Implementation: In the second and third months, the initiative will pilot the technology by equipping one public transport bus with screens to display the audiovisual messages and promoting the PELO TUNAKUJALI app. The pilot will assess the effectiveness of these tools in real-world conditions and gather user feedback.
Expected Outcomes:
Increased awareness of consumer rights and road safety among public transport passengers.
Streamlined, transparent, and secure insurance claim processes through blockchain technology.
Enhanced collaboration with key stakeholders to support and expand the initiative.
Alignment with Sia Foundation’s Mission: The projected outcomes of the PELO Connect project serve the Sia Foundation’s mission of user-owned data in the following ways: - Enhanced Data Control and Security:By incorporating blockchain technology, PELO Connect ensures that users have secure, transparent control over their insurance claim data. Blockchain’s immutable ledger allows users to manage and track their claims with confidence, knowing that their data is protected and not subject to unauthorized alterations.
- Transparency and Accountability: The use of blockchain facilitates a transparent process for insurance claims. Users can verify the status and history of their claims in real-time, which aligns with the Sia Foundation’s commitment to giving individuals full visibility and control over their personal data.
- Decentralized Data Management:Blockchain technology supports decentralized data management, reducing reliance on centralized entities and giving users more autonomy over their information. This decentralization aligns with the Sia Foundation’s goal of empowering users to own and manage their own data.
- Improved Access and Efficiency:The PELO TUNAKUJALI app will streamline the claims process, making it more accessible and efficient for users. By reducing bureaucratic hurdles and delays, the app helps users take control of their claims and access compensation more effectively, aligning with the Foundation’s focus on user empowerment.
Overall, PELO Connect’s integration of blockchain technology ensures that data ownership, transparency, and control are central to the user experience, directly supporting the Sia Foundation’s mission of promoting user-owned data.
