Small Grant: Enhancing Data Ownership through DeCast's Sia Extension

Subject: Progress Report and Next Steps for Sia Integration Project

Dear Sia Team,

I hope this message finds you well. We are pleased to provide an update on the progress of our Sia integration project and share the upcoming steps.

Progress Summary:
Since our last update, we have focused on the frontend development of the Chrome extension. We are pleased to report that the frontend work is now in the final stages. We are working on the user interface and core functionalities, incorporating feedback from the initial prototype to ensure alignment with your requirements. The frontend extension repository is available here: [GitHub - VideoWiki/decast-sia-extension].

Challenges Encountered:
While we have made substantial progress, our query regarding the ownership of the node wallet and the prevention of unnecessary or redundant data uploads remains open. We are continuously refining the process to ensure efficient and optimized data management.

Next Steps:
Our immediate focus is on finalizing and rigorously testing the Chrome and Firefox extensions, optimizing the user experience, and publishing them on the respective web stores to maximize user accessibility. Following the deployment, we will concentrate on the Sia integration and conduct thorough testing to ensure robust functionality and a seamless user experience.

We appreciate your understanding and continued support throughout this project. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or require further information.

Thank you for your collaboration.

Warm regards,
Aman

Hello @amanbishnoi

Thank you for your progress report!

Thanks for your patience on this one! From the team:

If the renterd node is running on the same device, you can use the API key to access the renter’s wallet using the request described here: renterd

If it’s not, we would need to know more about your intended architecture and reasons for accessing the user’s wallet.

Hello @amanbishnoi

This is a reminder that your July Progress report is now late.

I understand that this should be your final progress report, which we tend to be a bit more lenient about, however we do still expect a summary of the progress completed on the grant and a final wrap-up on the overall grant project as well as a brief overview of how to use the product.

Please be sure to follow the Progress Report Template and let us know if you have any questions.

Regards,
Kino on behalf of the Sia Foundation and Grants Committee

Subject: Progress Report and Next Steps for Sia Integration Project

Dear Sia Team,

Please find below our progress report and next steps for the Sia Integration Project.

What progress was made on your grant this month? Please summarize your progress in 3-5 sentences or bullet points:

• First and foremost, I must offer my heartfelt apologies for the delay in submitting this report. A family medical emergency kept me away from work last month, and I’m grateful for your understanding.
• Despite this setback, I’m thrilled to inform you that we’ve successfully completed the development of our extension.
• We’re now in the final stages, working diligently on publishing it on both Chrome and Firefox stores.
• You can view a demo of our work in this video: decast.mp4 - Google Drive

Summarize any problems that you ran into this month and how you’ll be solving them. Please summarize your issues into a few sentences or bullet points:

• The main hurdle we faced was the unexpected family emergency, which threw our timeline off track.
• We’re now laser-focused on meeting all the guidelines for publishing on Chrome and Firefox stores, which can be quite nitpicky, to be honest.
• We reckon it might take up to 15 days to get the extension published if we follow all the guidelines properly.
• We’d be over the moon if you could provide any feedback on changes needed before we go ahead with the store submission.

What will you be working on next? Please summarize your development goals into a few sentences or bullet points:

• Our primary focus will be on successfully publishing the extension on both Chrome and Firefox stores, no two ways about it.
• We’ll be going through the store guidelines with a fine-tooth comb to ensure a smooth submission process.
• Once published, we’ll keep our ears to the ground for initial user feedback and be ready to make any necessary tweaks or updates on the double.
• We’re also planning to whip up some user guides and documentation to help people get cracking with our extension.
• Once this development work is wrapped up, we’ll be working on proposing a new follow-up grant. We’re excited to share this proposal with you once the current grant is completed or closed.

We truly appreciate your patience and continued support throughout this project. If you have any questions or need further information, please don’t hesitate to give me a shout.

Thank you for your collaboration. Looking forward to your valuable feedback.

Warm regards,
Aman
