Small Grant: A Decentralized, Privacy-Focused Communication Platform

Project Name:
Network

Organization Name:
Network Technology

Project Description:
Network is a real-time communication platform designed for unlimited members in a community server. Our goal is to provide end-to-end encrypted chat, decentralized storage using Sia, and advanced privacy options for users. Some key features of Network include:

• Real-time chat for an unlimited number of users in a community (Millions of people in a single community server).

• End-to-end encryption (planned for upcoming months).

• Decentralized storage via Sia, allowing users to upload large files (up to 100GB or 20GB).

• No IP address storage, ensuring anonymity.

• Optional email or phone verification—users can access the platform without verification if they choose.

• Unlimited custom emojis and stickers.

• Ability to search old messages efficiently.

• Many more

Project Beneficiaries:
Network benefits the following stakeholders:

• Users: A privacy-focused platform for real-time communication with unlimited member capacity and customizable features such as stickers and emojis.

• Sia Ecosystem: Network supports Sia by using decentralized storage for file uploads, which helps strengthen the Sia network’s infrastructure and adoption. As more users leverage Sia for encrypted storage and file sharing, the platform will contribute to the decentralization of data.

How Network Serves the Foundation’s Mission:
Network aligns with the Sia Foundation’s mission by providing a platform where users can control their data through decentralized storage, protecting their privacy. By integrating Sia’s storage solutions, we offer a decentralized alternative to traditional chat platforms, fostering user-owned data in a secure and scalable environment.

Grant Specifics:
We are seeking $2,300 to cover the costs of launching Network and finalizing the development of the front-end code, along with ensuring the security of the back-end systems.

• Development: $1,000
• Figma design is complete.
• Backend is nearly finished, with some checks remaining to ensure no data leakage.
• Frontend development: $1,000

• Server Costs: $1,300
• Sia Storage: $500
• Server Hosting: $800/month

Total: $2,300

We agree to accept grant funds in $USD via ACH or Wire. We are open to monthly grant payments starting with the development budget upon approval.

Timeline:
We estimate that the platform will be fully launched within 2 months from the date of grant approval.

Potential Risks:

• Managing Large-Scale Servers: Maintaining server stability for a large number of users is a key focus. We plan to mitigate this by implementing scalable infrastructure solutions and regular performance testing.

• End-to-End Encryption: Ensuring that encryption is fully implemented in a user-friendly way will require continuous testing and iteration.

Development Information:

• Open-Source Code: Yes, the code will be available on GitHub at GitHub - hr24official/Network: A place where you can connect with your community..

• Monthly Progress Reports: We are committed to submitting monthly progress reports in the forum.

We look forward to building a strong, decentralized communication platform with Sia’s storage infrastructure at its core.

Thanks for your proposal to the Sia Foundation Grants Program. The committee has taken an early look at your grant and have commented that it would be helpful for them to see the completed Figma file. Please a publicly accessible link if you’re able.

Thanks for your latest proposal to The Sia Foundation Grants Program.

After review, the committee has decided to reject your proposal citing the following reasons:

  • This is an ambitious project for a developer, and your linked Github profiles show no development history.
  • The timeline and scope are very aggressive.
  • The requested Figma file was not linked.
  • You noted some features were already complete. The request for funds to continue work on completed features was a bit confusing. Grant funds should be for new undeveloped features.

We’ll be moving this to the Rejected section of the forum. Thanks again for your proposal, and you’re always welcome to submit new requests if you feel you can address the committee’s concerns.
