Large Grant: Blockchain Backup of HackerNoon Articles on SIA

Large Grant

Introduction

Project Name: Blockchain Backup of HackerNoon Articles on SIA

Name of the organization or individual submitting the proposal: HackerNoon

Describe your project.

HackerNoon, a globally recognized technology publication with over 4 million monthly readers, proposes an initiative to back up all HackerNoon articles on the SIA decentralized storage network. This project ensures long-term preservation of independent tech journalism, enhances SIA’s ecosystem by increasing adoption, and boosts its brand visibility within the Web3 community. By integrating with SIA, HackerNoon content will remain permanently accessible, censorship-resistant, and decentralized, aligning with the ethos of Web3 and decentralized data ownership.

HackerNoon has previously faced challenges with centralized platforms. In 2019, we transitioned away from Medium due to content control and monetization constraints. This experience reinforced our commitment to decentralization, making SIA a strong fit for ensuring the longevity and independence of our articles.

Who benefits from your project?

  • SIA Ecosystem: Increased network usage due to the continuous backup of 150,000+ existing articles and 1,500+ new monthly publications.
  • Web3 Community: Demonstrates a large-scale use case of decentralized storage, encouraging developers and enterprises to integrate with SIA.
  • HackerNoon Readers & Writers: Guarantees long-term, censorship-resistant access to independent tech journalism.

How does the project serve the Foundation’s mission of user-owned data? By storing HackerNoon content on SIA, this project ensures that thousands of independent tech articles remain accessible without centralized control. This aligns with SIA’s mission by giving writers and readers permanent, censorship-resistant access to knowledge while promoting decentralized storage as an alternative to traditional cloud services.

Hey Hackernoon team! I know we’re speaking about taking this outside the grants program. Just to keep our Proposed section clean, we’ll move this to the “Ideas” category so we can reference it and move it back later if needed.
