Questions about Sia
-
Hello. I recently discovered Sia and I would like to use it to back up personal files (including several GB of photos and videos). I was planning on using Amazon Cloud but I'm a big supporter of blockchain technologies, so I would rather use Sia if possible. These are my questions:
-
I would like to keep the data for a long time, ideally indefinitely. Is this something I can easily do with Sia? I know I will have to deposit SC in my wallet periodically. But is that all?
-
Can I easily add and remove files from the Sia storage?
-
Can I have multiple instances of the same wallet of Sia? If so, can I use one instance to host files and another instance as a renter only (no hosting)?
Thanks in advance!

hi Vasa, I've been with this community for some time so let me assist you with the two firs bullets:
- Your initial contract will have a defined length with the hosts, but upon expiration that will be renewed in order to keep your files. . Quite clever.
- even wit hthe limited client there is today it is relativly easy to add and delete files or folders to the storages
- I'n not sure how you would operate host/renter separatly, and why you would want that.

Thanks for your reply.

I see. Can I choose the contract length? Also do I need to open the client to renew the contract? As a user I would like to have the contract renewed automagically as long as there are funds in my wallet without needing the client.

For instance, I could have one instance in my home computer (renter) and another one in some server (hosting). I would want them to be the same wallet so that the hosting earnings can be used to pay the renting cost without sending coins between wallets. Does that make sense?
