After hosting, nothing happened except for coins deduction.

    Hi SC staff,
    I have followed all the steps to start hosting: deposit SC into my wallet, set up new folder, and all the price set to default,. After announcing, nothing happened. 0 contrasts, 0 earned, 0 files. But the coins in wallet keep decreasing, every 10 to 20 minutes, 2.5 SC will be deducted by some address. what happen?

  • I'm not SIA staff, but I've using the service too, so here is my 50 cents:
    contracts need to be formed, space needs to be consumed on your host.
    each contract lasts for up till the minmal time frame you set up in number of weeks. This is where the service differs from other services (eg. storj, where you get paid monthly) - you will get paid upon expieration of the contract provided you are a good host
    what you expeirence as leaking cash is you collatteral being locked
    colleatteral is the mechanism SIA uses to have hosts encouraged to stay online, not to loose data - to be good hosts
    when your host upon expiration of the contact(s) shows proof of storage (automated process in the block chain) you will get your revenue. AND you will get you collatteral at stake back.

    It works, I have seen revenue coming in :-) but it takes a while ... however don't expect to make a living on it, since the storage demand, hence the GB-price is very low at the moment :-)

    @palislee it should start to receive files after about 2 days. If you aren't receiving files, it may be because your host has a low score. You can check the scores of all the hosts with siac hostdb -v (you can plug that into the terminal plugin). You should find your host and see how you compare.

    Generally, you want your score to be within a factor of ~2-5 of the host and rank 50. If your score is too much lower, you will never get selected. If you have a lot of storage, you actually want your score to be 2-5x higher than the score of the host at rank 50. And if you have not too much storage, it's probably okay to have a score 2-5x lower.

    Interesting, I can not find my host on that list at all.
    Synchronized, online, announced, been online at least for few days, stable fiber connection.

    Where to start troubleshooting?
