Problem initializing seed

    Hi, so i installed 1 month ago sia wallet version 1.1 i think (the old one anyway) on a crappy laptop with hdd took 3 days to sync, i could see my balance and everything was fine, then my laptop shutdown for whatever reason and now sia has an error everytime i open it.

    Anyway after reinstalling i always had the same prob so i installed the 1.2 version wallet on a fast pc with an ssd, it synced very fast but when i put in the seed to retrieve my SC balance it gets stuck at "initializing seed" its been there for over 24 hours is this normal ? what elese should i try ?

  • Can you check your wallet log for a message like:

    INFO: found key index x in blockchain. Setting primary seed progress to y

    You can view logs in the UI using Ctrl+Shift+L.

    When initializing from a seed, the blockchain is scanned twice. If the log message is present, it means the first scan completed. If it's not present, it means the first scan got stuck somewhere. This will help us debug the problem.

    I checked, it is not present ..... I deleted the previous wallets folder from my old pc but i dont think thats the problem right ?

  • Hmm. The next step would be to run siad from the command line, then run the siac commands siac wallet init-seed and siac wallet unlock. init-seed will take a while but hopefully succeed. After that, unlock will also take a while, but siad will print out the current block height as it's unlocking, so you can monitor its progress.

    If you aren't comfortable using the command line, I suggest that you either try the load seed command or simply wait for the next release. I am currently working on some changes to the wallet that may help you. It may also be worth a shot to delete your current Sia folder and try again. Finally, the wallet may not work well if your system is low on RAM (<4 GB).

    Ok works problem is it tells me to enter a password which i have forgotten, i know only the seed ... what can i do?

    Bro, i dont understand what is going on, my wallet finally unlocked using my seed and it is a different wallet with 0 balance (my balance is 25K+) and a different receive adress ....

    After unlocking i clicked again on recover using seed and it shows error:cannot delete primary seed or smthing like that ...

    Why didnt my account get recovered and why is this a new accounnt?

    Ok everythings fine now i moved th wallet folder to the new pc and everythings is fine now thanks for help nemo.

    @nemo Ok so i have another really big problem .... I can see my balance now on my new pc but the problem is EVERY TIME i click on RECEIVE SIACOIN button, to show my SIA receive adress, it shows a DIFFERENT adress ecerytime i click on it .

    Is this normal ? As a result i tried to withdraw my 20K sia from poloniex and i lost them cause it wasnt the correct sia address !!!!
    Should i click only once on this button or ???

  • It's normal to get a new address each time. All those addresses belong to your wallet and you can receive coins on any of them all the time. See some info here: https://siawiki.tech/wallet/using_the_wallet

    What do you mean with lost 20k coins? If they have not arrived at your wallet yet please check if your wallet is fully synced or if there is a withdrawal error on polo side. Polo had some problems sending coins lately... If you see a sending error on polo side, you need to open a ticket there.

    @nemo thank you so much, I was finally able to restore my wallet with this.
    Is there a way to set a custom password/passphrase when restoring a seed with init-seed?
    Also why does Sia-UI corrupt so easily? Often it freezes and doesn't want to close and when I kill it it's as if the program damaged after that as the syncing doesn't appear in the top right corner and none of the buttons work. I have resorted to keeping a copy of all the files that I copy over if it corrupts haha.
