Too much RAM & CPU being used?

  • For a couple of months now I've been hosting with Sia-UI. During this time I've noticed the host machine being unresponsive/laggy. A quick look at the active processes has indicated Sia-UI is responsible. My system is running an i5-4210U processor alongside 8GB RAM. Task manager is showing Sia to be consistently using around 30% of CPU and 2GB RAM. I currently have 467 active contracts. Is this normal?

2GB RAM is normal, actually I'd expect it to be closer to 4 GB. We are working on bringing that down.

30% CPU is normal if you have files that you've uploaded to the network. Also normal if the amount of data on your host is increasing steadily while the CPU is under load, but continuous 30% isn't expected. And, the fact that the renter will cause it to spin for long periods of times is a known bug, not expected operation.

We're working on both of these things, but if you think the CPU might be spinning for a reason other than listed, please let us know, because it might be a different bug than what we already know about.

  • @Taek well I'm glad it's not 4GB! I haven't uploaded any files. Only hosting. When the disk is idle (5-10% usage) Sia still uses about 25% of CPU. Not sure if this has any relevance, but there's about 233 GB of storage that's been used. I've also been running Storj to see how it compares and it does seem to be less CPU/RAM hungry than Sia. Although it's only using about 170GB of storage. So this might explain why. I can live with this issue for the time being, but not indefinitely! Let me know if there's any other info I can provide that will help. Good luck with the improvements!
