  • From @taek : "The ratio will not be that high in the long run, we just have a rogue renter running around right now."

  • @Taek - How does one become a rogue renter? Is someone doing it intentionally?

My guess is that someone set their allowance too high, and that they are trying to form contracts with hosts. Either that, or they experienced a bug where the renter thinks its blockheight is some tens of thousands of blocks higher than it is.

In both cases, the renter can't do damage to the host other than sending annoying (but infrequent) network messages. The amount of bandwidth consumed from each message should only be a few kb, and nothing really for the hosts to worry about.

If you are that renter, you'd know because it's been trying to form contracts for a long time, yet you still have less than 50 contracts.

  • Oh, ok. I have been testing the restore of my renter data a few times, and a few attempts seem to have failed. So I "abandoned" those renter contracts and started over with blank renter data. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't causing problems, lol.

I only set my allowance to 3000-6000 SiaCoin, and all the contracts completed forming. So I'm glad I'm not the rogue renter!
