Sia Marketing angles- "Gonna Be a Data Farmer"

  • I was just entertaining some marketing approaches to promote what I see as the unique offering of SIA (and others)...

I am not so sure Business to Consumer will test too strong in the end, we shall see, I am not sure if a business would want to have anything internal externalized through decentralized model. Not regarding data security - but just reliability - who knows.

But I DO think SIA (and others like it) are the FIRST solution I've seen that allow people to collaborate Consumer to Consumer, and this is unique. This as far as I see is a first. It ALSO opens doors for many people that have extra drive space or simply want to earn some income renting out local resources. I see this similar to micro lending, and consortiums built around micro lending.

I just wanted to share that insight that while I see SIA advertising themselves as a rock solid Enterprise Data Storage solution? I think the REAL breakthrough and strength is that someone BARELY more knowledgeable that knowing how to launch Facebook can now download the client, through an easy interface select how much space they'd like to rent, and start earning some income proxy of SIA coin, true SIA is 'not' a currency, but in that it has value that can be traded for currency with ease at any exchange ? I use that word interchangeable.

Anyone else think SIA (and others) REAL breakthrough promise isn't just ' YET ANOTHER ' 'CLOUD data storage system for Enterprise Business' but really 'A FIRST in providing an on ramp for ANY PERSON (not corporation) can now include their hardware in a public cloud, and earn income for said services...

I'd LOVE to see SIA bring out some cartoon farmer character - promoting he's a Data Farmer - farming SIA coin.

I just love that image heh.. it WORKS because it connects to people- sorry Doge- the crowd you served with that silly car likely was never to even figure out what a paper wallet is, or what you do with it.

SIA Data Farmer Dave could reach - well- quite LITERALLY - how many CRYPTO solutions can ACTUALLY bring in - say a REAL dairy farmer... Forget the cartoon, show a real farmer - glum because the corn fields are dry from drought but he opens the barn door ? and you see arrays of 4 TB drives, some flashing LED's for routers - and then he smiles 'At least SIA is ALWAYS there' - then some age 35 year old woman's voice (nice mid age demographic there, older women like the younger at 35, and younger than 35 look up to them) - she goes "SIA coin, it's there 24/7 365 days a year- Farm anywhere"

Then run a few more ads showing someone in an apartment in the city - FARMING - someone in Alaska FARMING data with SIA... Someone even at a picnic table at a camp ground, farming out 1 TB from their laptop - just show that ANYONE can get involved in SIA, and in this DOWN ECONOMY ?

If you show the tens of millions of unemployed people ? they can earn income ? farming data ?

    SIA becomes a household name.

3 years out - Larry- an unemployed mechanic goes "Hey Phil, how much you farming this year?" Larry- make him up to look like a non techie - Larry comes out covered in grease "I figger I'll be stackin' another 2 petabytes on top of what I got, damned thing makes more money than I did fixin' cars- not a daaaayamed clue how it all works though, I just turn on the machine and I'm a makin' monies"

ok enough of the Phil and Larry show

but SIA I think is MISSING the REAL selling point AND ATTRACTIVENESS of this project

it opens access to the END CONSUMER - the consumer who doesn't even NEED to ever HEAR the word PARTITION.

  • (Matt Damon voice perhaps) "If you can successfully market a cutting edge high technology blockchain decentralized data storage system to people at a NASCAR race with 98% comprehension ? I mean, really now, what wider demographic can you ever dream of?"

My point is - SIA can be grasped by anyone age 8 to 80.

woman walks in to aging parents
    (NEW commercial idea heh)
" Mom ? Dad? I got you a SIA BOX for Christmas - you just plug it in and it helps pay your health care costs"

Really now - I can SIA it no other way - okay - I'm NOT SURE about using SIA to say the word See there heh.

    Sia is pronounced Sigh-Uh :P

I am not so sure Business to Consumer will test too strong in the end, we shall see, I am not sure if a business would want to have anything internal externalized through decentralized model. Not regarding data security - but just reliability - who knows.

As stated in the other thread, Sia's security and reliability model are superior to anything that could be achieved through a centralized service. I do think that Sia makes sense for enterprise customers, and I think that, while the team is small, it makes sense to target big, easy fish.

Turning a brand into a household name requires a lot of effort, a lot of marketing, and a lot of people. We don't have the resources to chase that today. If we want to keep working on Sia, we need to get to profitability, and we need to do it as a small team. Our long term goal is to bring decentralization to everyone, and not just decentralized storage but every form of decentralized resource. That is a long way away though, and for now we need to focus on the battles that we can win as a 3-going-on-4 person team.
