How do I get started?

I have downloaded the Windows UI client, bought a small amount of SIA coin and transfered it to my wallet from Poloniex.
The transfer has gone through according to Poloniex but nothing has appeared in my wallet after an hour. I try to upload a file but it tells me I have zero contracts. I try to set an allowance, and get a not enough hosts in hostsdb error.
I'm confused. What's going on?
