How to cancel contracts?

  • Hello.

I want to cancel (stop) storage contracts on SIA (1.0.1), because it deducts a small amount of SIA coins every few weeks. I do not use this space now. I have deleted (canceled) all my files stored, but this alone does not help - still can see "24 contracts" on my "Files" section.

My initial purpose was to test how SIA file storage works. Thanks for any advice!

  • Update.

    Now shows "Files" >> "0 B Used / 175 GB Available",
and can't find "24 contracts" any more. I have tried to reduce "Allowance" in SC to stop these contracts but probably this is not the correct way to terminate contracts.

  • @mano My understanding is that once a contract is made, it cannot be cancelled. A contract is like a reservation of space that you may use in the future, for a given number of weeks (I don't know what the default is, but it's in the range of 12-24). The deductions you see every so often should only happen while you have data actually stored on hosts however, so now that you have 0B Used you shouldn't see any more deductions, and the contracts will expire on their own. When they do, anything remaining in your allowance will be put back into your account.

  • BTW, if you want to see the details on your contracts, from the Terminal in Sia-UI, run "renter contracts" and it will give you the details, including the "End Height" which is the height of the blockchain when that contract will expire.

We currently don't have a way to stop the contracts from renewing. We are sorry for this oversight, and will add the feature soon.

If you delete the 'renter' folder in the sia persistent directory (varies by OS), it will stop renewing.
