Minebox - Next Generation NAS powered by SIA
-
You guys partnered with HP?
-
@Taek Anything is not official yet. They are aware of us and we have been talking to them in several occasions, certainly they liked that we have turned their HP hardware into a powerful NAS, and they are interested in the whole technology and ecosystem behind. The device will be branded as HP Minebox, with Minebox customized design on top of their work.
What is important for Minebox customer, is that he will receive a support from HPE, in case of issues. I will provide info on this in one of our upcoming newsletters, with more details.
-
Will you help customers to get SC for Minebox directly for USD. Many customers could come from non-crypto land.
Or old path USD -> BTC -> SC.
Or only earn SC by renting HDD in Minebox.
-
@stealthx We would help the customers to get SC for USD.
As something we plan to do is ship the device with some amount of SC, enough to start to the host feature(pay for collateral) and pay for your files once they are starting to be uploaded to Sia. Every Minebox will(at least that's the plan) will come pre-loaded with SiaCoin.
-
- How will i be able to access the box? Will there be a mobile app or can i access it via browser of another device?
- When will they be available on the market?
- Is the box quiet? Are there any fans installed or are the drives the only noise source?

-
@Taek Exactly. The user will receive instruction to generate a new seed(BIP39). Andreas Petersson(co-founder Minebox) will elaborate more on this topic as the security mastermind. For those who don't know Andreas is the co-creator of the Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet for Android. He is bringing a lot of expertise and experience in this segment, key management and security of the crypto funds.

@betaboot
To answer:-->> 1 You can access the box via browser. What we are working towards is every user to be able to access his device with his ID, for example http://betaboot.minebox.io, but this is still work in progress.
Is it possible to remotely access the box from any device as well. At the moment we don't have a mobile app developed by Minebox which enables you access from your mobile, but there is a workaround which can enable you to access the device from mobile, for example a Samba share.
*-->> 2 We will start a pre-order in November, and on the market will be available in Q1 2017 - January as target month.
*-->> 3 It is quiet and it is low on energy consumption. The drives on the Minebox are NAS drives, which are designed to operate 24/7.

That's big news.

Hello @vpetrushev,
I hope you're still reading here in this old post.I have a question about the free space hosting feature.
What is the behaviour of the box when the amount of free space is less than the "used storage" of the host component.
e.g. 4TB are used by my files and 3TB are announced as host from which 2TB are actually used.
What happens when I put my 2TB music collection on the box?greetings

The set up around minebox is really sweet. Everything in a box, fire and forget.. nice
..however.. What the world need now is first of all solid and error free sia network ( I think there is a good road map already) and more services around it to really start boosting demand fro storage.
Storage is already there in place in large quantity.
