What happens when a file is deleted?

  • As I understand, when a file is deleted it remains on the host (still encrypted of course) for the duration of the rented period (6000 blocks), i.e. when you delete a file, it is only deleted locally. Can anyone confirm this?

Now to the question: If I delete a file (locally), can I still retrieve it later with a copy of the .sia ASCII file? And, can I share the file with others even though it has been deleted?

I assume that once 6000 blocks has elapsed the file is always irretrievable.

If it is possible to share the file after deleting it locally, it is actually a pretty cool "feature".

Locally, all you are keeping is a .sia file. When you delete the file locally, you're just removing the '.sia' file from your renter database. If you've got another copy of the '.sia' file somewhere else, you can use that to share the file or re-import it into your renter database.
