Really confused about using the UI
-
Hi, I'm new to Sia and am struggling with unlocking the UI. Do I have to type in the entire password every time I want to unlock my wallet? Is it the exact same as the seed? Do I use spaces between each word? Can I just use an online wallet? Can I make multiple wallets?

Hello doggian and welcome to Sia!
As for your questions, in order:
-
To unlock your wallet you'll need to enter the full passphrase (spaces included), which is also your seed. By default Sia-UI will leave siad running in the background even if you close the main window, so your wallet will remain unlocked until you fully close the UI or manually lock it.
-
There are several online exchanges that can hold SC, but you are typically better off keeping most of your funds in a personal wallet.
-
You can create multiple wallets if you wish, but the UI does not natively support this so you'ld have to manually swap the wallet files which could lead to issues.

So I just tried to use the password that I took a screenshot of and I am getting the error:
error when calling /wallet/unlock: provided encryption key is incorrect.
I typed excruciatingly slowly, checking every letter before typing it. This is about the fourth time it has given me this error, all of which I typed super slowly. Is this a problem with my UI? How am I expected to type around 19 words and not make any errors when I can't even view the words I typed? I know you're big on security, but this is too much, tbqh.

You can try temporarily typing the password in notepad or the equivalent and copy and paste the password into the field. The long password is an annoyance, but there are significant security concerns and an ongoing discussion centered around the issue. You can also create a wallet with a custom password, but it will be different from your seed which you also want to record.

Yeah, I worked this out. Thanks for your help, it logged in finally and I'm in business
