When an enterprise controls all the hosts with your storage?

  • I see that sia aims for enterprises solution. I however think it is very possible that a company with very competing price ends up controls all the hosts which resides your file/files.

That would be very unsafe, wouldn't it be?

Even if they can't decrypt your files, they can lose your files for whatever possible reason.

  • I don't think this would happen. It's true that traditional cloud service providers are so large that small enterprises are forced to exit. However, in the sia network, the users actually have no idea which company is storing their data and the difference of service quality between big and small companies will not be significant, so small companies will not be competed and the network will remain quite decentralised.

  • If there is any kind of geographical clustering due to one entity dominating the market, the protocol can always be adjusted accordingly.

@bonedriven this type of thing is something that we'll be actively protecting against. Especially as the software gets more mature, Sia will be picking hosts to maximize speed and reliability, and will be able to prioritize hosts which are in geographically diverse locations and which are known to be under the control of separate entities/parties. We will have to evolve the software to match the ecosystem, but it's not something that concerns me very much. You will be able to tell that your data is at least on multiple continents.
