A3 miner went berserk until I switched pools today
-
Hello everyone,
I am relatively new to Siacoin mining and have had my A3 running for nearly two weeks. I had one episode a week ago where a hashing board went all X's. I resolved it through rebooting.
Today, I was monitoring the A3 when I heard the fans go into high RPM and yet the temps were falling to the lower 50's. A couple of web pages refreshes later and, sure enough, the A3 was showing X's again across the lower row. My HW error rate was skyrocketing. It went from maybe 2000 to 5000 and then 10,000 and 15,000. I unplugged the A3 and waited. After plugging it back in, the problem started up again. On a hunch, I Google searched the issue and found a forum describing how Siacoin developers might be attacking A3's. I don't know if that was legitimate or not. But, it did prompt me to change my pool settings over to Antpool just to see what would happen.
I can't even wrap my head around this. But, after switching to Antpool the problem is resolved. No hashing board X's, no high temps or runaway fan speeds. It is behaving like a good little A3.
I will run the Antpool settings for 24 hours just to see what happens. I would prefer to mine via Siamining. Has anyone else experienced hashing board issues with their A3 today and around 11:30 PST? Is it possible to attack an A3 through a mining pool?

I thought I might post an update. I just now switched back to the Siamining pool from Antpool. I let Antpool run for minutes shy of 24 hours on and I believe I made maybe 100 SC less. The A3 has been running for 10 minutes with both fans and temps in the nominal range. No crazy hashing board X's and only 2 HW errors so far. Fingers crossed.
