PPS Pool in Beta Testing!

  • 7/8/2016 Update:

    Attention everyone! Great news!

We will be moving the pool to production hardware over the course of the weekend! Please expect some downtime.

We are also resetting all the statistics back to zero. Your previous shares will still be paid out!

Along with moving to production, we are going to increase the PPS fee from 3% to 5%. This is to cover the additional server costs (siad eats a lot of ram, and we unfortunately have to rent a more expensive VPS.)

After switching servers, the pool will be open to the public.

After a few weeks hard work, the pool is finally in testing. I've sent out info to the testers who inquired.

Pool currently is PPS with 3% fee, supports long polling for lower stales and username-less payouts (simply uses your wallet address as the username!)

Will officially launch after we get some serious hashing going, a few blocks, and to make sure payouts are painless.

    Any questions, let me know!

    Edit 1:

We do not have any specialized mining software. You would use the publicly available GoMiner, the same you use when mining solo. We added commits for it to access a pool: https://github.com/SiaMining/gominer/commits/poolmod

    Update 1:

So far the beta test is running well! We've discovered a few bugs in GoMiner and one in the pool. You can see here in the pic the testers running, and one person still on an old version of the GoMiner that is producing a TON of stales/invalids:

    Update 2:

    Found our first block!

    Update 3:

    Another update:

There is a rather severe bug in GoMiner that is sending in duplicate results to the pool. Due to this bug, many miners are wasting TONS of hashing power doing the same work over and over.

IF YOU ARE SEEING ANY DUPLICATE SHARES IN YOUR MINER LOG or seeing any invalids on your pool address, PLEASE get in contact with us! The email address for contacting us is provided in your pool address page or the testing instructions

We would like to solve this bug, and we need your help to do it! This bug only affects some miners, not all of them. It's an issue with the GoMiner, and not the pool itself.

    Update 4: 7/6/2016

We currently have enough testers. Thanks for all the inquiries. If we need more, or the pool is released, I will make sure to send a message out to everyone who has contacted me.

  • Wow, that's some great news !
    Two questions :

    • Is it still possible to test the pool ?
    • The source code will be published in order to open some other pools on our own ?

    Thanks :)

  • We have enough testers to start with! I would like a few more in a couple days! (Send me a PM)

At this point, the source code will not be released.

  • Can you provide some kind of proof that the pool is operating? There's been rumors about miner malware possibly stealing mining payouts. We don't want anyone to fall into the trap of downloading binaries that actually solo mine under the pretense of mining with a closed-beta pool.

Although it is very possible your intentions are good in this case, I nevertheless want to extend a warning to anyone that receives a "private" pool invitation (not that I know there has been any such sent out) to not download and run untrusted binaries.

As for the pool operator, I would recommend that their software is also vetted by a trusted individual in the community, such as one of the the Sia core developers (if they have time for it).

    A valid concern!

We don't have any specialized mining software. I updated the post. One simply connects using the GoMiner. See here for the branch: https://github.com/SiaMining/gominer/commits/poolmod

  • Genuinely interested in this, I'll be watching this topic!
Any idea on how the pool will be in-testing?

No hard date or time set. Probably a few days.

  • @xurious Oh woops, that's a bad typo I did there (amazingly you still understood what I said). Thanks though.

  • compile under windows Please!

  • Pool code can open it?

  • are we going to see a guide how to best mine SIA on the pool

    eg. Windows/Mac/Linux/raspberry pi

in terms of add on mining hardware estimate cost and return?

would be great to see that + would be great if SIA could include that on their homepage

Yes, once we have moved out of testing.

    eg. Windows/Mac/Linux/raspberry pi

The windows binary for the gominer would be compiled and released upstream in the main git branch. We are simply making modifications to the offical GoMiner. You'll need GPUs to mine for Sia.

in terms of add on mining hardware estimate cost and return?

This will be a personal choice. Depending on how much you'd like to invest in hardware.

  • Great News,
Hope i can join this pool when it opened.

  • Added a quick update!

  • @xurious Good job.

  • Tester here, just to say that the pool is working great. Just downloaded GoMiner, put the URL of the pool and started mining right away.
So far with about 1.9Gh/s it got me around 12KSC for about 48h. Payouts are done quickly. Nothing more to say, just thank you xurious !

  • @Skellige
sounds pretty promising cant wait to test it myself. On which platform are you running it? windows/osx/linux plus are you only using your normal graphics card or did you buy some fancy add-on cards?

  • We do not have a GoMiner binary for Windows at this moment. So we are doing most of the testing under linux. We'll see about getting one compiled in the near future.

I'm pretty sure everyone is using standards GPUs. I doubt an ASIC has been developed for the crypto.

Hey there, just running 2X R9 290X on Linux. Got 900mh/s each, but with overclocking I think you can go a little higher. I don't really know Windows, but maybe you can build GoMiner from GitHub on Windows ?

  • Can help build GoMiner from GitHub on Windows?
