How can i delete wallet?

  • @jamiec79: Are you using the UI or CLI, and what version? If you are using the UI v1.0+ it should be in the location you have listed. If not then try fully quitting Siad (use activity monitor to be sure) and relaunch it. It should prompt you to create a new wallet.

If you are using the CLI the above path doesn't apply. It'll look for the wallet in the directory you launched the binary, or if you specified a manual data path using cli arguments.

  • @droghio i believe it's the sia ui, it's the current version 1.0.1.

When I delete the app and reinstall it is already synced to the current block and when I select wallet it asks for a passphrase I don't have.

All I want to do is create a new wallet but you can't seem to do that without the original passphrase which I don't have as it failed whilst in the original setup process.

I can't find any trace of a blockchain file (or wherever it holds the block info) on the Mac, I've ran every search possible :-(

I would really appreciate your help as I cannot find a way to remove any residual information to begin from scratch. I can't reinstall Mac OS x as its used for other things.

    Thank you Jamie

  • This post is deleted!

  • @jamiec79 Sounds like your siad instance is still running, even though you removed the ui. They are two separate programs so this can happen if something goes wrong. Open up the Activity Monitor and search for "siad". Quit the "siad" process and then relaunch the ui and go to the wallet plugin. As long as the wallet files are missing it'll prompt you to create a new wallet without asking for any password.

  • @droghio thanks for replying.

I've tried that and it still loads with updated block height and says wallet is locked.

I can't find the wallet files, so if I can't delete them then I can't create a new wallet...

Is there an uninstall function that removes the old corrupt wallet info?

    Thank you

    Jamie

  • There is no uninstaller at this time. Can you open up the sia-ui Terminal plugin and post the results of the following commands "version" and then "consensus"? Either way within the next 24 hours there will be an rc release that will allow you to be sure siad is quit and should help resolve these issues. In the mean time it really seems like siad isn't quitting, but there could be another bug at play. If you could run those above commands that would help.

  • hi,

    I've done as requested,

    Version = Sia Client v1.0.0

    consensus =

    Synced: No
    Height: 10144
    Progress (estimated): 17%

I've managed to finally find the wallet key and delete it, but for some reason i had to run the following command in Mac terminal. When i did it suddenly built the file structure and wallet was one of those items.

    ~/Downloads/Sia-UI-darwin-x64/Sia-UI.app/Contents/Resources/app/Sia/siad

I was then able to delete the wallet key. When i reopened the SIA-UI it asked me to created a new wallet and the passphrase and seed were identified. I took a copy of them for safe keeping.

To ensure i had the right information i tried to lock/unlock the wallet. Even with the copied and pasted passphrase it kept failing saying....

error when calling /wallet/unlock: provided encryption key is incorrect

Which it shouldn't be as i've just copied and pasted the passphrase in exactly how it was shown to start with.

I've some how now managed to unlock the wallet, after it rejected the same copy and paste 4 time and on the 5th it works?? I really want to start using the wallet, but i have no confidence in the ability to lock and unlock the wallet consistently.

I can try completely deleting the whole thing again, but i'm struggling to see what else i can do but wait for the update you refer to.

    Thank you

    Jamie

  • Actually i've discovered that if i paste the wallet unlock passphrase into the wallet unlocking screen i get the message...

error when calling /wallet/unlock: provided encryption key is incorrect

But if i use the terminal screen, and type wallet unlock and then enter my passphrase it works. It confirms wallet lock - success. When you type wallet lock it doesn't confirm anything, but if i go to main overview screen it shows locked.

So at least i've found a way to lock and unlock wallet. Hopefully when i move coins into the wallet i won't have any further problems.

Also i know this may be a newb question, to make a backup of wallet i just need the wallet file nothing else?

Thank you for your patience and support.

  • @jamiec79 To backup your wallet you just need to remember the seed. If anything happens you can re-import the wallet seed into a new wallet. You can also copy the wallet.json file and re-use that to keep the same wallet.

Glad to hear you found a work around, but this sounds like it might be a ui bug. If you have time to run a few quick tests that would be really helpful.

    • What is your default OS language?
    • Just to confirm the wallet unlock when you use the Terminal plugin built into the UI?
    • If so could you open the Wallet plugin, hit "Cntrl+P" to open a dev window, try unlocking the wallet again, and send a screenshot of any console text you see in the dev window?

    Thanks.

  • Hi @droghio

The default OS language is English, it's OS X El Capitan

Wallet Unlock - I've tried via the main wallet/password screen and it fails each time, when i try the Terminal screen and type wallet unlock and then enter the passphrase it works. (well most of the time).

When you say open the wallet plugin? Do you mean the sia-UI, wallet screen? I've managed to screen shot, but there isn't an option to upload/attach file to this message? Am i missing something obvious?

    Thank you

    Jamie

  • What I did was delete a folder called wallet, which was created when running sia. I run Mac OS X Sierra and the folder was created when running the application, and it was located in my home directory.
I hope it helps others :)

Edit: actually you might have to run the siac program in addition to reset the password

  • I am having a similar problem, I installed Sia UI version: v1.2.2 on mac El Capitan.

I get the error - "error when calling /wallet/unlock: provided encryption key is incorrect" when re entering my password. I figured that I may have made an error somewhere when writing the passphrase down so I decided to delete my wallet and start again. I have looked in all of the locations above and there is no wallet to be found. I've searched the entire system and can't find anything close..

    What should I do?

  • @Pepperage Scratch that. I found it in the end.

  • @Pepperage

    to install a new one.....

I cant find any solution, please help me =(
