Help me to understand Debits of SC

  • Hi,
After running my siahost www.siahost.prayas.info successfully for 14 days (even though Sia show me as active from 7 days only) with 100% up-time, I started getting contracts from today.
I have set my host as

    1. Collateral = 300
    2. Max collateral = 600

I got my first 11 contracts today and expected SC is 33. I see the following transactions where my SC has been deducted. Kindly help me to understand those. Why these many debits and what decides the debit amount in each transaction. I was thinking that I will be deducted maximum of 600.

    • 353.364
    • 304.976
    • 600.00
    • 29.047
    • 0.257

  • That is a Max collateral of 600 per contract

  • @Ricky Thanks.
    One quick question too.

After few days of getting first 18 contracts, my host started downloading renters' data to my storage space. It kept downloading the data for 24 hours, which ofcourse I was monitoring. It totally downladed 800+ GB. When SiaUI statrted downloading, it was using around 400 MB of RAM. Toward the end of 24 cointioue hours of downloading renters data, It was using 5 GB (yes Gigabytes). After download finished, I left the SiaUI kept running for an hour in an expectioant that its memory consumption will come donwn automatically but did not.

I gracefully requested SiaUI to shutdown. I restarted SiaUI instanly. It synched the blockchain again and took some time. that OK. Here are some quesiton, if you can answer me.

Q1. After showing 18 Active Contracts and then downloading 800 GB and me restarting SiaUI, now I see onl 7 Active Contracts. Is it normal or I lost 11 contracts ? Note that I was expected to get X-Siaconins before any download started and still software showing me same X-siacoins are expected.

Q2 - Even graphics processing system, video editing s/w doesn't take 5 GB of RAM. No way. Is this a bug/memory leak of this software ? What do you think?

Q3 -For the 24 hours duration when my host was downloading my renters file, my host was not being shown as "Active" on siahub.info. So would have been a possibility that my hub was not available to those renters whom might have been searching for hosts to make a contract ? Any idea.

  • You got 800GB from your first 18 contracts? That seems high. Ive only been hosting for a few weeks and have 73 contracts. With about 60GB. Of course it can vary with how much a renter uploads. My SIA client is only ever taking a little over a gigabyte of memory at anytime from what i noticed. Mine is running on it own VM to which I have allocated only 4GB of memory to and only ever see it at about 48% usage. Maybe there is something up with your system.

As for the contract count. It is a known bug. Basically the active contract count doesn't seem to actively remove finished or otherwise dropped contracts. So if you restart the Sia-UI occasionally you will see your active contract count refresh for any finished contracts. In your case since you only just started, it most likely just renters that initiated contract creation but then closed their contractt before uploading anything.

And for Sia hun stats. You may need to double check your port forwarding.

  • Thanks

Yes. I got 800 GB last week of data downloaded to my LUN. This is probably because I kept my pricing very low, when I started my first SiaHost. People grabbed this opportunity very fast ! Also probably because (may not be true, just giving credit to my effort) people went to my site and believed what my plan is. I am going to increase my price to much higher rate now once SiaUI finishes downloading data. IT doesn't allow any change in the price while downloading renter data.

Every thing came back to normal after I restarted the SiaUI (once Sia UI was ideal for more than an hour).

Starting 30 hours before, right from writing this post, I see that SiaUI is again writing data to my LUN. I am monitoring my Sinology's LUN even hour. So far my 2.6 TB of hosted space, 1.5 TB has be consumed and at the time of writing this response, SiaUI is stilling saving data to my NAs/LUN at ~10 MB/S

I am noticing the same patter again. SiaUI started with around 300 MB of RAM consumption when It started downloading the renters' data. As of now, it is still downloading and it has currently consumed 4.5 GB (giga byte) of RAM.

I am running Windows 10 Pro with 8 GB of RAM. No VM.
