Hosting errors

  • Hej,

I found the referenced topic, for which noone posted a reply. I have the same questions, and am having a hard time finding answers.

    Re: Curious about errors

I have been hosting storage for 6 months today. I decided it was time, to have a look how I was doing. And, I have to say, it has proven to be extremely difficult to check how my financial status is after 6 months.

Obviously, I can see that over 5KS has been deducted from my wallet, which has probably been spent on collateral. Going over my transactions, I have loads of small amount that are being deducted, but there are no transactions being added to my balance. This could be due to that fact that I have just about reached 25 weeks.

I have rented about 185GB out of the 1TB I have available. By my calculations, I have earned 75 + 27.77 + 1.468 + 0.05808 = 104,29 SC... that is not a lot after 6 months, and I'm wondering why anyone besides a supporter like me would want to offer storage to the network?

    Host Financials:
    Contract Count: 75
    Transaction Fee Compensation: 75 SC

    Storage Revenue: 27.77 SC
    Locked Collateral: 14.41 KS
    Risked Collateral: 204.9 SC
    Lost Collateral: 0 H

    Download Revenue: 1.468 SC
    Upload Revenue: 58.05 mS

Now... all would have been fine, if I hadn't started looking through the hosts logs. Like the poster of the question I refered to, I see a lot of worrying messages in the log:

    Lot of those:

    2018/01/30 03:03:51.240117 errors.go:151: connection error: error with 73.243.24
4.132:55696: incoming RPCReviseContract failed: revision iteration failed: could
not read renter transaction signature: EOF
    2018/01/30 03:36:03.761446 errors.go:151: connection error: error with 73.243.24
4.132:49888: incoming RPCReviseContract failed: revision iteration failed: could
not read renter transaction signature: EOF

    and lots of these:

    2018/01/26 23:43:58.248340 errors.go:151: connection error: error with 73.243.24
4.132:52995: incoming RPCReviseContract failed: revision iteration failed: unabl
e to read revision modifications: read tcp 10.0.30.199:9982->73.243.244.132:5299
    5: i/o timeout

    and those:

    2018/01/19 08:05:20.110690 errors.go:151: communication error: error with 80.121
.59.78:48142: incoming RPCRenewContract failed: renter rejected the host setting
s: read tcp 10.0.30.199:9982->80.121.59.78:48142: read: connection reset by peer

    Some more that seem worrying:

2018/01/30 02:27:00.338907 errors.go:151: internal error: error with 73.243.244.132:60949: incoming RPCReviseContract failed: failed RPCRecentRevision during RPCReviseContract: challenge failed: could not get 90142f1de027c1b7cfaae4eec003e9e283eadc5c5abf9a8f780a26ea3e4b4504 lock: the requested file contract is currently locked

    quite a few of those:

2018/01/14 12:27:18.021814 storageobligations.go:574: Missed storage proof. Revenue would have been 3000000000000000000000000.
2018/01/24 03:53:38.146812 storageobligations.go:574: Missed storage proof. Revenue would have been 3000000000000000000000000.

Especially the ones where I missed some storage proof, might indicate that I actually missed some money? And I don't understand why, as the server has been up for months.

I also seem to have 75 contracts, but I have no idea what the size of those are, and how much SC is involved?

Can someone help me understand this a bit better? I feel like I'm running a business, without having a proper insight of where my money is, and how much I'm earning or not earning.

    Looking forward to some feedback

    With kind regards
    Jelle

  • I've the come to the same conclusion...
Hosting cannot pay for even the electricity in most cases.
The reason is low demand for storage (cuirrently 2-3% utilization)
But also bear in mind SIA is great project that has actually delivered funtionality to the space at a scale most other crypto based projects have not managed to .
But it takes time - SIA must work on having in the demand for storage shifted massivly upwards in order to make any viable buisness caes for any profitable storage provider.
I look at it this way; I want to follow the space and the development, I participate in the communicty and learn a lot. I happned to buy the coin when it was dead cheap so so far that is my only profit.
Stay tuned, SIA will be a great success .- you just need to let it mature
