Cant figure out to arrange a contract on Sia-UI

  • I recently discovered the Sia Project and decided to store some files onto it. I downloaded the Sia-UI, ran it, got a password and unlocked the Wallet.

However when I open the Files tab it says there would be 3 Active Hosts, it that really all? Also, how can I arrange a contract for a few GB?

    Thanks!

  • I think the issue here is that you are using 0.5.2 wallet version while the current version (which is run by the most of network) is 0.6.0 and they are not compatible.
I don't know though how to get a GUI for 0.6.0 or to initiate contracts from siac.

The latest version of Sia (0.6.0) does not have a GUI yet. It's being worked on and is progressing very well.
Sia 0.5.2 can't see the hosts of Sia 0.6.0 and since most hosts should have upgraded by now you can't uploads with it anymore.

To create a contract with 0.6.0 you need to run this command: ./siac renter setallowance [Siacoin amount] [Period in weeks]. So if you want to spend a maximum of 10000 siacoins on storage and want the files to stay online for 5 weeks you run this command: ./siac renter setallowance 10000SC 5. Then you will be able to upload 10000SC worth of data for 5 weeks.
You can upload with ./siac renter upload [file source] [file name]

  • how quick will it be untill the gui is here? Is it a matter of days or more like a matter of weeks?

The full release supposed to come out on June 28th. But there will probably be release candidates out before that.

  • where should I look out for the new UI?

There will be a release posted to https://github.com/NebulousLabs/Sia-UI/releases/.
