Way that SIA works...

Ok this is how I understood it. Everybody how has extra GB or TB on his hard drive can interact in the network. And he can lets say rent 500 GB of his HD space for the SIA network. And all the files are distributed around network, lets say I upload one image and it is seperated in 1000 parts and stored on difrent hdd of the users. But doesnt that mean that all devices on wich that picutre is stored has to be up all the time in order to retrive that image. Lets say I want to download that file and 999 computers are up and running but only one is not turned off, and I can not download that picture. I mean who will guarantee that everybody will keep their laptops/pc's up all the time. Or maybe I dont understand this concept clearly. Anyone?

when uploading the renter will duplicate the many bits of files. So this ensures your files will be downloadable. Also in every little file chunk a certain algorithm makes sure the file can be repaired if fragments missing (solomon/reed I think it is called).. All clever stuff
