where is my files?

@underflow It does not yet have the ability to just switch machines. You will need to recover from your old hard drive.

I'm afraid it is not good day for you.
You seem to be the first victim of the critical missing part in Sia problem...
Your contracts for your stored files are gone with your hard drive. And as far I know the recovery of contracts is still not implemented.

it seems this should be a self - evident to store the contracts in the blockchain, isn't it?
anyway there are no important files this is was test installation. for now i see that technology is quite raw at the moment. it is sad... i planned to use sia right now.
is there any ideas to fix this issue in the future?

@underflow The road map will tell you when they think they will get certain things done.

  • as far as I can judge this case for the next 18 months, not very fast...
I have already submitted my vote for this functionality. thanks to all
    topic can be considered closed

On Sia it is not so easy by design. As I understand contracts are formed once and registered on the blockchain. But after that these contracts are changed (revised) and stored locally at the renters and hosts nodes. A contract is being revised on every file upload at least.
The problem is- Sia blockchain is already a big chunk of bytes. Can you imagine what size would it have if every contract revision (file upload) would be stored there?

I don't have the slightest idea about this :)

No. Let's better talk about this instead of file sharing or video streaming features. Otherwise the devs could get the wrong impression about the most needed (first to implement) things.

I don't have the slightest idea about this :)

You have noticed that it is already 7gb downloading 10 hours. With the contract revisions on the chain it would grow faster than the used storage amount and become unsustainable. Just imagine...

  • I agree about this
first priority in my opinion is (in arrange of urgency):

    1. restore files only having only seed or password.
    2. not to download whole blockchain for users (referring to the end-user as a product, i.e. to store the files)
    3. usability, now it is generally something awful. I'm fairly technically savvy user, but even for me, the current UI looks not very well. I don't see what my allowance size, when it expires, how much it costs and so on ...
    4. OS integration like dropbox or google drive (i meen I want to browse my files in explorer or other file manager)

it would be nice to know that these comments will be noticed by anyone from the developers.

  • and also speedup syncronization and form file contracts - all things that speeding up begining of use this technology needs to be a priority.
btw I was waiting one more hour to able to start uploading files

@underflow Only an hour? That's fast compared to June. Looks like they made some progress.
