Backup from my QNAP to SIA

  • Since Amazon cloud storage is closing its doors, I am looking for a substitute to backup data from my QNAP RAID device to off-site location. I think SIA could be a great and economic solution to my problem, but I do not know how to start using it.

I'd prefer to have a QNAP app client (Synology is another larger user base) allowing me to set and forget the periodic backup... Currently, I was unable to find such solution, but probably I could do it via scripts... My QNAP is older 459pro. If anyone has any idea how to solve this as elegantly/simply as possible, please do tell. A link to such article is also welcome.

I think SIA has a great potential, but you need to grow user base (on the side where existing storage capacity will be used and paid for)... How better than by offering native apps for synology/qnap/other dedicated storage devices.

    thanks,
    Jaka

  • I'n not SIA... SIA is to my understanding working hard to be bhe back bone of decentralized storage and not so much on how to consume that servce...

take a look at anohter cool initiative - the windows storage driver:

  • @jaka

The consumer side apps will come, the primary focus is ensuring all the backend bits work correctly.

There is a nextcloud sia plugin.

However, the issue with the qnaps and other small NAS's for example, is ram limitation. With only 1gb in your 459, that's just not enough to run the Sia Daemon.

There will be work on consumer stuff, but Sia is still early in it's stages.
