Inconsistent upload... choose which hosts to rent from?
-
I'm trying to upload four videos totaling 256 GB. My upload bandwidth is 40Mbps, and for the first day Sia was uploading at 40Mbps, but now it's a crawl, averaging 8Mbps. Computer resources are far from maxed out, and upload speed is still 40Mbps when I do a speed test, just Sia is not utilizing it. I'm using Sia Client 1.2.2 and Sia Daemon 1.2.2
Could this be a host problem? Is there a way to choose better hosts? I see the hostdb in terminal, but do not see a way to interact with it. Any ideas how I can maintain a consistent upload speed?

Solution unknown...there is no way to actually select hosts from a renter perspective at this time.

Choosing hosts centralizes the data. We don't want that.

@bryan I wouldn't think selecting hosts by speed is any different than selecting them by price which is a fundamental process detailed in Sia documents.... but that violates fundamental contract protocols.
The renting process in the UI is in fact selecting hosts for the renter which (by your explanation) is Centralized...but the buyer cannot see or control this.
Centralized in my mind means the storage being kept in 1 location..not limiting the right to select certain parms of a host.
Sia = socialized data storage now?

Running into the same issue. I have 500 mbit upload, it uses 10 to 30... This way my files (+/- 5TB) will take AGES to upload.

There was an incentive to include the hosts speed into the host desirability scoring, but it is not there yet.
And I'm not sure, but I think the uploading process parallelisation has some glitches, so a single host can stall the whole uploading... I mean I think to have seen somewhere the problem is known to the devs. Let's hope it is solved in the next minor release.

I don't think the problem is a specific host at this point. I've tried multiple machines, each with different wallets, thus different contracts, with different files, and I can't upload any larger files without it going from 40mbps to .1mbps after half a day or so. After giving it days to upload, I tried restarting, and it just keeps uploading at .1mbps. Have others successful uploaded large files? From what I've experiences, it feels completely unusable :(
