Wallet Still Loading

  • I'm new to all of this and am trying to install a Sia wallet. I've followed all the steps and the wallet is syncing but after 12 hours it still is only at 49.1%. How long should it take to finish and is there any way to speed it up?

Also, when I try to copy and paste the password into the wallet it won't let me. Nothing shows up and I have to type it in (fun...) Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for the help. Hope someone has some answers.

@frankstuart At this point it could take days. If you don't intend to host or rent I would just keep your coins in the exchange.

  • Same for me Frank...however I was also told that I should not keep coins on the exchange and that they are more secure in a wallet.

Also my SIA wallet says I need a password to log in - but I have never created a password lol! ? I'm also at about 50% after 12 hours odd..why does it take so long?
Can we not just download a version that is already "synced" or am I a technical 21st noob that doesn't understand the necessity of syncing (everything should take 1 second to load!! aahhhhh!) :X

  • @24Caliber Be careful about what you say or mention - In another forum for another coin I complained and wondered why everything was so involved and complicated in setting things up and a responder called me lazy and not willing to do the research and work to do the set up. I have only had a computer for about 6 years, over 60 and not computer literate. I also work a full and a part time job to make ends meet which means 14 to 18 hours a day six days a week. When do I have time to sit in front of a computer and do all of that work? I would think that they would make these things user friendly so more people can invest money into these to help pump up the values!! I admit that I am not early as smart as many of these computer geniuses and do not understand most of what is involved. But why should someone be called 'lazy' just because they are asking for help?

  • @frankstuart Siacoin is, more or less, still bleeding edge software. It's only been under developement for about 2 years from a VERY small team (just 3 people!)

I would think that they would make these things user friendly so more people can invest money into these to help pump up the values!!

They are working on it! The problem is they are making sure the underlying software is very sound before moving forwards with a great front end.

It would be a tragedy to have an excellent GUI entice thousands of users, having something catastrophic break the system, and then the name is tarnished forever (Read: Windows 10.)

Things are getting better, and will continue to do so with more time.

    ------------------------------

As for your original question (and @24Caliber): Yes, the wallet will take time to sync. You are downloading and verify hundreds of thousands of transactions to make sure you own copy of the block chain is authentic and correct. It's akin to going over all the paperwork when doing your taxes. Running a full node (as you currently have) does take a little bit of time. However you can still transfer coins to your wallet, even as it syncs.

You should be able to ctrl+v the password into the field (after you click in it.) It's how I unlock mine on Windows.

    ------------------------------

    @bryan @frankstuart @24Caliber

Your coins are most secure in your own wallet. Something can happen to an exchange (hack/theft), whereas if the coin is in your wallet. It's under you control. Period. I would never leave a large sum of any coin in an exchange instead of in my own personal wallet.

    ------------------------------

@24Caliber Your "password" is your wallet seed.

  • @frankstuart haha ok thanks for the advice... ? :)
I agree, customer is always right :D
Your comment is a bit confusing, you work a full time and part time just to make ends meet, but also want to invest in SiaCoin?

  • @xurious
    ok thanks xurious :D

p.s. I think you guys are doing great work and that is one the main reasons I have bought so many coins, keep it up :) Why don't you expand the team?
