second rig

i have just with the help of a friend put together a second rig with 4 gtx 1080 ti extreme cards, it looks pretty sweet, open air but all plastic, the temps of the cards are miles lower than the pc rig i have with the same cards, 65c instead of 80c

i had a 1000 watt power supply but its not enough and was crashing every 20 min or so, so i have disconnected one of my cards and now its fine, ill buy a 1000 watt power supply tomorrow and add that then split the cards across the 4, 2 on each. maybe even be able to then over clock them a bit.

on 3 cards at the moment I'm getting 9,217 MH/s on 4 i was getting 12.2 Gh/s so around 3000mh/s per card

i have space to add 2 more cards to this rig if i go with the extra 1000 watt power supply.

obviously like everyone I'm worried about the asis chips next year, what other coins are g force graphics cards good for?

my plan is to get 4 rigs of 6 cards running as i get the cash

im running in a special 10mm2 cable ring main to one room in my house to handle the juice (should be fun trying to get two of them in a socket lol) as 8 kw on one ring would not go down well. i have solar panels too that do 4kw max so hopefully they will help pay that bill (8 x 0.14 x 24 is £27 a day or £10k a year)

One thing to note: Breakers in your house are typically rated for 15 amps.

This one rig draws ~10 amps. (1000w / 110v)

You'll need to make sure the wiring in your house and breakers are setup for this much load.

Edit: I can't read. Wrote this out before I read the last paragraph.

Make sure you inverter can handle the lload! Also you could save money by skipping the conversion to 120/220. They make special 48v server power supplies to servers.

@chrisscott666 Nice high hash rates. If you intend to run 4 rigs I suggest a 20 amp dedicated circuits for each. You'd likely need a dedicated air conditioner as well. I'm going through the same transition as you right now.

As far as your solar panels 1x6 card rig is going to eat up your entire solar panel array. You would need 1 solar array that size to support each rig give or take panel efficiency. However if you energy rate is tiered system it should keep your power usage at base rate which is still cheaper than your peers will be getting.

i will run the 10mm to a local fuse board and dedicated circuits off that

my solar has micro inverters so direct 240v off each pannel, they wont power them all but will help and every little helps.

i also have the consern of the police kicking my door in thinking im growing ;o)

i now have my second 1000 watt power supply fitted and all is fine (no one told me about the connector to turn on the second supply, i went to maplin and made my own cable) and the cards are running well, peaking at 15ghash/sec. i now have enough power to add 2 more cards which i will do when im home in 2 weeks.

@chrisscott666 Hah the police will feel very silly when they have to go buy you a new door. You should be able to make the connector with a paper clip and a piece of tape. Most of my power supplies came with a premade connector though which I feel a lot more comfortable using. That's some awesome hash man good job.

i went to maplin and used 2 24pin extender cables and some chocolate block to make a cable that turmns the second one on and off with the mother board which is better than on and never stops with the paper clip ;o) ill buy a propper cable for when i get home.

i will ring the police and inform them just to be sure and invite them round for a look if needed.

i have fire arms so i get inspections for them anyway in the uk

@bryan the uk is a little more strict on who can own weapons, the have to be locked in a safe at all times and ammo locked in a separate safe, it’s so if I shoot someone they can claim it was pre meditated as I had time between getting the gun, then loading it to think about what I’m doing lol iv been to many American ranges, show tour sriving licence, sign a form and which automatic weapon would you like 😂😂
