"The pitch is that once the products are up and running, the currencies — with names like BAT, Mysterium and Siacoin — will be redeemable for services like data storage or anonymous internet access..."

WRONG!
(i'm not SIA) but I have been following the comunity very long. There is a networks of hundres of active hosts. Also a lot of miners support the network.
There is a very well thought of road map and some very clever developers behind it.
SIA is not a ASCSM - I've had a host running for 6 months and experience it's being storage to be rented out and that I get paid.
Also the nwtwork operates 100%independantly of the company invented and developing the protocols - my they cease operattions the network would still tick on.

@kafi959 It isn't far fetched, new coins launch every day with million dollar crowd sales. Most of which are get rich quick schemes. With the presale of a forced hardware starting this week at a ridiculous price of 2500$ I'd say Siacoin is definitely leaning that way or at least could be perceived as leaning that way. Specially with only a 3 man dev team.
I personally believe that the world needs this project. Even though I completely disagree with the asic miner and its price I think SIACOIN has the potential to go from 400 million value to 400 billion. I may be a sucker but I'll be sticking around til at least the release of the new asic miners. Also HP is building hardware for SIACOIN so there must be something to it.
