Question on using Marlin for solo mining...Am I solo mining ? Shows up at siamining.com but I don't specify any pool
-
I have a naive question here about solo mining.
I am running Marlin
In my BAT file I do assign my wallet address, worker and intensite.
Notice I have no pool reference. Silly question here, am I solo mining here?
When I put in my address at Siamining.com ? I do see I'm earning coins, but sure sure pool IS the way to go, I wanted to let this run for a day on 'chance' for solo for hitting that 'big one'.
Can someone validate whether siamining.com is a pool ? I certainly don't have any URL or pool address specified in my command line execution of Marlin below, yet? I see my two workers listed at siamining.com issuing a few coins per hour. I am puzzled I thought you can only earn coins by hitting the block - all or nothing? If that is the case how am I earning these few coins it shows?
Thanks in advance for any insights, again to be clear, I want to solo mine for a day, I have not entered any pool info but I'm puzzled as to what I'm seeing at siamining.com. I will move to pool in the near future, but that's not what I'm seeking here today.
marlin.exe -u %address%.%worker% -I %intensity%

@Tim-Miltz SIAMINING.COM is definitely a pool. It works pretty good. I'm not sure though how to even solo mine SIA. Though I can tell you that I have been mining for several months and am yet to find a block with 10 cards.

@bryan Thanks for reply Bryan
But if I'm mining at a pool, even though I am not specifying Siamining.com in my parameters for execution of Marlin?
How can I find a block though? I mean, seems to me if I am in a pool, I won't get that 300,000 block finders fee?
Neat on the 10 months :) ouch - I figured it was worth a shot to let it go for just a day solo though.
I'm confused that you mentioned you haven't found a block yet but are also not solo mining.
If you did find one? would you get the reward using siamining.com?
or partial?

@Tim-Miltz Maybe marlin defaults to siamining.com. You find a block by getting lucky or controlling a huge portion of the hashrate. Even though I'm in a pool I can still be the one that finds the block for the pool. So it shows me that I haven't found one. I haven't read anything saying that you get a reward. I think it's fair in the way that you get paid for your share only. Also reviewing the last people to find blocks I don't see any spikes in their transactions showing extra for a finders fee.

True, I didn't think about that - that it will still show if you found a block.
Ok
It does seem Marlin is compiled to use Siamining.com since I don't specify siamining.com anywhere.
Thanks again for the reply.
