Host files space vs actual space used

I am currently hosting 8.78 gigs of data over 11,437 contracts, however, the amount of space being occupied in my host folder is a lot larger. It currently sits at about 37.5 gigs (total for entire host folder). Is this correct? Is there supposed to be data that is purged possibly from old contracts? Im not hurting for space but I can see where this might be an issue for someone who is hosing a lot less files than I plan on hosting. Is there something here that might need modified, or purged manually ?
