Confused on how to upload/create allowance

  • Greetings!

I put $10 of BTC into Siacoin (995 sc) and transferred it to my wallet. I then hit the "create allowance" button and here is where I might have gotten confused. I thought it was 500sc but it was really 5,000 sc and I hit accept.

It now shows "4189 SC Spent / 5000 SC Allocated & 6 contracts". However I am not able to upload anything "not enough contracts".

I'm confused as to what to do now. I thought $10 would be enough to store some files and test this out.

Also, my wallet now has 3.83 SC out of my original 995.

    Thanks!

  • Bump - still having the same issue. Would be great to get some support - maybe I'm in the wrong area?

  • I just tried this out as well. I entered lower amounts of 20-50-100-and even 1000 SC and got error msg back saying it wasnt enough to form contracts. So I reluctantly entered 5000 SC. Well the contracts formed. I am being informed that SIA automatically links you to contracts. I am not sure how it can AUTO LINK people to contracts without them seeing the price. But it created 50 contracts. I cannot upload either.. the mysterious part is how SIA is auto-matching people to contracts they never saw.

From my 5000 SC it shows 775 spent. ???
I am told the system is defaulting- but who set the defaults? Also why is there no notification of what the defaults are and what the system will do prior to creating the allowance... Just bizarre. Lacks transparency right now.

  • @cryptokrate I let the UI sit for awhile and the files begun to transfer. May just have to wait some time after setting your allowance and selecting the files.

    Just curious.
What does your Sia-UI reply if you run "renter contracts" in the console?
    You should get some "contract-ids".
Then, you can run "renter contracts view {contract-id}" to see each contracts details.

  • COntracts build up gradually and will take som time from when you do allocation, until it is fully settled and then you can upload..

  • @reinisp - the process as was displayed in v1.2.2 was I had to allocate an allowance. I did that. Then after that it deducted and matched me with "a contract". There were no contract ID's.. there were no prices- no details- nothing. Just me being paired up with some random contract and my allowance deducted. This was not the expectation I had of how this operated from a renter perspective.

    Sorry, I misunderstood your question.
I agree that the UI part of the Sia-UI isn't encouraging.
I assume (hope), devs will turn their attention to the UI after the backend is finished and all missing functionality is implemented.
But as with every incomplete product, it gets better with time if not abandoned.

@cryptokrate I wonder how it allowed you to do 5000 SC worth without actually having it. It looks like you might just be waiting 6 weeks for it to refund your amount.

  • @reinisp I think the UI would actually be ok if there were more documentation as to what the expectation level is at. There is ZERO right now.. Or you read a white paper from 2014 and its totally diff 3 yrs later with no update. I was a bit surprised at the rental portion.. but to the post...
I tried entering diff amounts- none took until I actually put up 5000 SC.

  • Yea, I'm confused as well. I'm trying to create allowance just to test upload but on the UI it says "contract fees are non-refundable. They will be subtracted from the allowance that you set." I'm trying to test it out with 1 TB which the website said would be $4 but on the UI it comes out to $18 in just fees, and it says 2TB of storage, so in order to get that 2 TB of storage I'd have to do $18 in fees every 6 weeks or would it be $18 in fees plus the storage cost every six weeks?

And if I have 2k SC in my wallet and I do an allowance of that 2k, will I still be able to host files?

  • At this stage there are many questions in the UI. There is no way to tell what your being change for and why.
Regarding the post however- I think your funds are spent and have you hog tied because you sent some in- but it wasnt enough.. and those coins are immediately spent.
So something we have learned here is - do not make an allocation that you do not have. I would be curious to know that if you bought more coins would those auto deduct until you paid the full 5000 SC.

In my case I had the 5000 SC and it took them out immediately for holding. Now if I do not use any of those a portion are suppose to come back after 3 months. But again.. this is in theory. Long story short is- unless you have enough SC to tie up for 3 months do not do this. May need to wait until the UI becomes a bit more robust.
After 3 months I will be able to report back on the SC I used for allowance.
