Storage Proofs

  • Can someone tell me what a storage proof is please?

  • It is a mathematical proof that a host is actually storing all the data the renter asked it to store, which doesn't need actually sending all the data.
In Sia, it is implemented by having the host send a very small random portion of the data, and by the renter keeping something called a Merkle tree of hashes that can be used to verify that the small bit of data actually belongs to the original data set (even though the renter may no longer have the original data).

  • I've noticed that the successful storage proofs number has not changed for the last week, why would that be?

I'm guessing that it's because we switched the storage proof period from 6 weeks to 12 weeks. We're in the period where all of the 6 week storage proofs have expired but none of the 12 week storage proofs have.
