We're not exactly sure. I had the same thing happen to me with 8000 coins. Only i never transferred from anywhere. I'm personally leaving my coins in bittrex. So that I get notified if someone were to log in somehow.
Huh, you mean that your Sia desktop wallet got emptied out? Bryan do you work at Sia?
-
@elokatis Not emptied but 8000 Sia was taken without permission. Not related to poloniex. I'm a volunteer on the forum.

That sounds awful. How can that happen? Have anyone at Sia commented on this? Does not feel very safe to store coins there then, but where else to store them.
-
@elokatis The problem is currently that they believe it can't happen. But it clearly can. I've chosen to leave my coins in the exchange. This way at least I'd get a notification if someone were withdrawing my funds.

I think i understood what happened (in my case).
I went to install a sia host on another machine.
Then, on that new machine which i wanted to share the balance with my laptop Sia-UI, i initialised the wallet with the laptop seed :$siac wallet init-seed <my-laptop-seed>
But i didn't realized that i should have transfered the balance on the new machine (sia-host). Then when the sync have been success fully ended, i type :
$siac wallet balance
and i saw that the 3083 was on the new machine.
I then transfered again on the SC amount on bittrex (i paniced) and that last operation has successfuled.

-
yes, no coin lost, just coins "move" from a wallet to another.
Sorry for the false alert.
