Created a wallet wrote down my seed and password. Next day was forced to create a new wallet with new seed and password.

  • I'm just telling you exactly what happened. When I wrote down my seed and password the first time, the syncing was taking forever so I wanted to sync it tomorrow. But when I opened it up the next day, the syncing restarted and the wallet gave me a new seed and password. Frustrated, I closed Sia and now I can't get into my new wallet because I don't have the new seed and password. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but this is just dreadfully horrible. I might just leave. I've been at it the past 4 hours that I'm about to give up and spread the word...

  • I just want a functioning wallet. Is this too hard to ask? How do i delete this current wallet and create a new one? Sorry I'm just so frustrated.

  • @reinisp So I'm assuming there's nothing I can do? What do you mean log on as a guest or different user. When I download the the wallet, there is no login but just a password with random words i have to enter. But since the wallet gave me a new seed and password the next day that i never wrote down because I already did the previous day, I now can't enter my wallet. How do I delete this current wallet and get a new one. I don't have any funds so I would like a clean slate.

  • @maol I'm trying to get off this platform and spread the word asap. Can't even delete my account because there's no option...

I understand the frustration. This is not normal, but you should remember, Sia isn't ready yet. And thus the current SC price at exchanges is doing more harm than good for the whole project.
If you take a drink (and time) and read more about Sia (including this forum), you could end up concluding you jumped to early in the Sia world...
    I'll try to guess why.
Your first problem- Sia is very intensive on disk usage at least at the first sync. The client needs to download the entire blockchain (>4GB) and process it. On a regular (spinning disc) hard drive it can take more than 2-3 days. On a SSD it happens faster, but it is still a long process. Last time I synchronized from scratch it took 12 hours and the HDD Led was nearly constant lit all the time (I didn't stare at it all the time, so i just assume it). There is possibility to speed up the initial synchronization (search for "download consensus.db"), but it is not guaranteed to work for all.

About your wallet. If you have no coins in the wallet, you can just forget it and create new one (and write down the seed once more). If you have coins in your first created wallet, you can restore it with your seed you wrote down. And only if you transferred coins to an address belonging to the wallet for which you have no seed or password, you have bad luck and lost your coins.

It takes just a lot of time (patience) currently.

  • You should close Sia --> "quit" in tray Sia icon.

    Rename WALLET folder in:
    (WIN) %UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Sia-UI\sia
    (LINUX) ~/.config/Sia-UI/sia/
    (Mac) ~/Library/Application Support/Sia-UI/sia/

Run Sia UI 1.2.2 then click "Load a wallet from a seed" and enter you seed backup.
This will create new wallet based on your seed. Sync wallet, unlock wallet.

@reinisp What do you mean log on as a guest or different user.

I meant your login into your operating system.

To create a new wallet, kill the siad process, and as @stealthx said in

    Rename WALLET folder in:
    (LINUX) ~/.config/Sia-UI/sia/

    and start over.

Or, go to console/terminal and run
    "siac wallet init -p --force"
to try without killing siad and manually deleting anything.
