regarding question 2, sure, only a small segment of the file each time (each proof), but eventually, the segments of a file will sum up to way more than the file itself. right? because you have to submit proof periodically?

@stewie if that is indeed how it works it would probably take a decade or something. Unless you're storing a ton of 1kb files in which case it's irrelevant anyway.

I just found the description of the storage proof in the Sia wiki.

I think not all explained in the wiki is already implemented... You can't be sure if it works as described there, but you can read at least about how it should work or how it is supposed to be.
For instance, I doubt the anti-centralisation feature is already fully implemented, as I've never seen a possibility to configure this: "If the user wants to be certain that data is decentralized, they can be sure to select hosts that are all over the world" or where and how to blacklist a particular host... Or, these may be "undocumented features" which need to be thoroughly tested before documenting (and enabling) them for the public.

@reinisp Well mine currently still stores the files in a cache on my PC as well as a list so I'm pretty sure we're not 100% decentralized yet.

Further than that I'd really hope that by decentralized it would be dynamic enough to where you could delete your wallet info for a period of time and there'd be no trace of the files until you restored your backup of the wallet. I wouldn't call something decentralized if someone could just log into my PC and see all the files.

I hope the SC price goes down for a while, so the devs have enough time to implement these needed but missing features instead of doing "firefighting" for the exchanges.

SIA was invented for having a contaioner for the payments - NOT as a means of investment. Look at the graph for SIA coins - it was flat falt since the beginning only since march it has been exponential - for no reason related to the core SIA project at all... Please bear in mind that the underlying value of the SIA coins can only in a healty way come from utilization, demand and supply of storage and from good announcmenets from hte SIA folks, of which there has been none this exceptional in the period. ON the contrary, if the market now thinks SIA is the new gold, all liquidity can be soaked up in investment, just sitting there to wait for the bullbe to crack, not to buy and sell storage, eventually having the consequence that even less storage is being traded, and then SIA is a new bitcoin, that is not used for what it's liberators of the world though, but just as a digital gold bar

@larsfloe It will be used for investment whether it's wanted or not. I believe we'll be over a peta in usage by this time next year. You'd have to be an idiot to not make an investment at less than a penny knowing if the project is successful you will get 1000 times your investment when it hits 1$. They say it can't hit 1$ I say they're full of shit.
