siad not loading with renter enabled

I run a Sia host on my home server, and when I initially set it up I did not enable the renter module. Now I would like to be able to use the hostdb command so I am trying to get it running with the renter module enabled. The problem is, for some reason whenever I enable the module it never finishes loading. Even after 8 hours I cannot interact with it using siac. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm running it in headless mode on a Ubuntu 16.04 LTS box.
