Caught it. Its SiaUI v1.3.1 Bug – Memory Management.

    Update -
Even after updating to v1.3.2 - I get this and similar error.

I checked windows "Event Viewer". EventViewer documents couple of error caused by SaiUI.exe, but no details. Only error message is - 0xc0000005

A deeper research about this error message (see some of search results below) suggests me that Develper has written a bad code.
Developers - Can you help ?

    ----------------------- internet search result ------------------
DEP has been enabled for both hardware and software components since Windows XP SP2. However, some programs are still unable to be fully compatible with it. Some applications adopt a technique, usually called dynamic code generation, which doesn't tag these codes with an execute permission. As a result, this conflict gives rise to the problem. Besides, if software is developed without SafeSEH, it tends to cause 0xC0000005 error when DEP is enabled on the computer.

If you encounter the error code because of DEP, you can contact the developer of the software causing the issue and ask whether they have a solution. Alternatively, you can disable DEP for the software in question and this can be done through following steps:

    Small file problem

I know exactly the process & improvements you have in mind. My use case for Sia is traditional backups, and ...

@watcher said in Small file problem:

a new file system in SIA

... your's appears to be online file system.

I'm sure there are a lot more use cases still that would benefit from your improvement. I just didn't consider them because I'm focused on my narrow use case. Apologies for trying to tell you what to do; go right ahead with whatever you feel is right!

    Good Use Cases for Siacoin

It states in the github that Sia works best for static content, but one of the use cases listed is for personal backup, which would seem to change constantly? So what is more granular advice on good use cases for siacoin, in terms of frequency of updates?

For those using it for personal backup, how frequently do the backups occur? Is it every 24 hours or closer to every few minutes (like some commercial services)? Is it possible to save old versions of files?

    Excessive host bandwidth

As a viability test for siacoin I set up a small VM with 50GB of hosting space, staked a bit of sia and waited to see what would happen.

After a few weeks the short answer was not much. The estimated revenue was a few siacoin and I turned off announcements so that eventually I could turn down the server and get my stake back once the contract ended life.

Fast forward a few more weeks, my upload is just getting insane. My ~58MB of rented storage has caused 6.8TB of upload in the past 60 days. Now obviously this is my fault for assuming this would basically be a cost-free adventure. Unfortunately, this has been causing issues with my day to day work considering my upload throughput is locked up. Am I alone on this or is it common for renters to download excessively? Did I screw up my pricing? Unless I'm reading the host stats incorrectly I've earned almost nothing despite uploading quite a lot of data.

    Feedback comparison

    Hey,
I just mined a few SC and now I'm also tried to participate as a host, but after 2 days, I didn't received any contracts.
Also the usability leave a lot to be desired, in a post before I read something about the html implementation, which sounds really nice, so download plattforms could also use your services. maybe you could also integrate some gui for some download websites for musicians to upload their music or maybe some for movies and stuff like this. I guess this could be a community, which will push your services, even if we live in the century of spotify and other streaming services, I guess there still would be a market.

Also some partnership with a direct SC seller would be make it much more easier to handle for otto normal citizens. I would create a html implemantation which is put on top of your chain.

    Best regards!

Kindly post a blog on SiaUI's Wallet Details....

    @bryan
Thank you for responding especially because generally it takes time to respond, which I consider the utmost precious thing.

However, it is not helpful. There are two indicative things then

    1. Like MSDN (one of the greatest help collection by any IT company), I would expect a single responsory of help for Sia. However, Sia is new, definitely I would not expect it sooner, but I hope company must be planning in this direction too.
    2. Based on the answers of Q1 & Q2, then only best possible solution, to keep the highest possible up-time for Sia HOST is - Virtualization.
      a. Install the SIAUI v1.3.1 on a Virtual Machine. Have regular backup of the VM file itself. So that in case of VM getting corrupted or the VM Host getting corrupted, you can simply take the VM file and bring it up on a different VM Host. In few minutes, you VM will be up and running that means SiaUI v1.3.1 will be up and running.
      b. Host the Siahostdata.data and saihostmetadata.dat on NAS. NAS will expose these files using LUN to the VM’s OS. This will make sure that VM OS will be able to write and read to the customer’s’ data at a very fast speed too. LUN is used by all the major banks’ servers and for services like Database Servers, WebServices which demand highest possible read and write speed.

IF not till now, then I would request the SiaUI architects to consider its architecture to support High Availably Deployment (step2a & 2b) mainly because if more HOST are highly available, more clients will come to your ecosystem. Hence Sia must rethink this situation if not until now. At least for now, its seems that Virtualization is the only possible solution to achieve the same.

I am hosting my SiaHost from Laptop but storage is coming from step 2b. Hence, I know sooner or latter my laptop (even though it would have been a desktop) will crash or power supply until will fail. In that case what will I do, or what other HOST providers will do ?

I am putting a case together that if Sia is serious about highest possible UPTIME HOST and most of HOST to be in their ecosystem for # of years, they should be designing their application, from Enterprise Perspective too, which then will include my concerns as put together above.

SIAD missing while downloading from github

    Dear SIA Techs,

I'm new to the community. I have a raspberry pi3 running with raspbian stretch running 24/7 already. I'm new to the raspberry community too but my application is running. The RP3 has still some resources left and I also have some storage space left which i like to provide to the SIA network.
So i tried to follow the instructions of

    https://pinode.weebly.com/sia-host-raspberry-pi.html

but modified it for stretch, which seem not so difficult.

When comming to the point of downloading SIA from github.com/NebulousLabs/Sia/...
with go I get the download but the /home/pi/go/bin (the bin) folder is not formed.
I tried to typ in ./siad but "No such file or directory" is the answer.

I know there is a siaberry image but I guess it also can be run on a normal raspbian linux version, since my 24/7 programm should still run while hosting ;).

So I guess i made some misstake with setting up go, but I'm not sure.

    Than you for your help

Introducing SiaBerryOS: A Linux Operating System for Using Siacoin on Raspberry Pi 3

    @ kete
Big thank you for the hard work.

You need to unpack the Image.xz "SiaBerryOSv1.2.img.xz'" (use 7zip)than bourne it like a DVD/Blu-ray) on your microsdcard. https://www.osforensics.com/tools/write-usb-images.html worked for me.I used an microsdcard to USB Adapter.

Connect the rasberry 3b before the first boot to Network cable and router, and some TV so you can see what happen.!! ....If not ,you perhaps can't get Network to work. I tryed first boot whitoute conection.. and can't find out how to Change IP. I fixed it wite rewriting the Image to the microsdcard and connected everything before first boot and it worked . After that you can see the ip of the siaberry in the prompt in TV , or you use a toll like ""fing" for ios or android to find the ip if you can't find it in your router .It was named " recovery" in my router and not siaberry or rasberry some confusion for me. After that you can hit the ip in every browser you have in your "Lan" configure the siaberry to your conditon. I use the IP cause siaberryos.localblabl did not work for me. It loads the chain more than a day ,wallet unlocking trigger cause of new Wallet Setup need a few hours. But it works.

[Solved] Sia Hosting with Dual Stack-Lite (DS-Lite)

    Hi,

since a couple of days I am trying to get my Raspberry Pi working for Sia Hosting. I am using ketefids SiaBerryOS.

    My status are:

    Connectability Not Connectable
    Working Status Not Working

Both ports 9981 and 9982 are open as TCP (Windows Defender Firewall and router). I live in Germany and have a cable connection (DS-Lite - the ISP is UnityMedia --- I have a IPv6 external adress with and IPv4 tunnel). Router is Fritz!Box cable 6490.
I read some threads but wasnt able to find a working solution.
    Maybe DS-Lite is the problem?!!
Maybe I did something wrong with freedns.afraid.org configuration...
    Do I need a portmapper?

I am not realy familiar with networks and be confused. Hope you can help

    Thanks Phil

    UPDATE ---

I managed to fix/workaround it and wrote a guide which is working for me:

Since my ISP only provides a Dual-Stack-Lite (DS-Lite) connection for private customers, you only get a public IPv6 address without an IPv4, in this case the router and the devices can only be reached via IPv6. But IPv6 is not a standard yet.
In order to access the RaspberryPi via the Sia network and IPv4 devices, a portmapper is required. This can be set up at e.g. feste-ip.net. The steps are explained below. The guide has worked for me, but I can imagine that with another configuration it is also possible. I am not an expert for home networks or an IT specialist, but if you have any any questions I will try to answer them.

    My configuration
    router-------------------Fritz!Box cable 6490
    device------------------Raspberry Pi 3
    portmapper----------feste-ip.net
    DDNS provider-----MyFritz!

    1. MyFritz!Release at your router. This will give you an URL like: "https://abc.myfritz.net:12345"

    2. Now release any port of the RasPi inside the FritzBox (this port will be closed later). Select "MyFRITZ!Release" instead of "port release" during the process. After the port is released, an URL like "http://siaberryos.abc.myfritz.net:12345" is displayed in the edit menu (pencil icon). This URL is needed again.

    3. Create an account at feste-ip.net

    4. Create a new portmapper on the tab "Universeller Portmapper" with +

    5. As DNS name/target IP use the URL of your MyFritz!Release "siaberryos.abc.myfritz.net" without "https://", without ":" and without the port

    6. When assigning the alias, do not use special characters and do not use "." or "-" or "_", otherwise you will get an error from SiaBerryOS later. A continuous text is best. As well the ending should not have the mentioned characters too. "feste-ip. net" for example won`t work. The dot from ".net" works of course, e.g. "siahosting" and ".dnsupdater.de".

    7. Leave the fields empty at port selection and at the bottom select "1:1 Portmapper" --> "2x 1:1 Portmapper" - create portmapper

    8. Now you get a table like:

Your MyFritz!Release URL | Target ports | Mapping URL
    siaberryos.xxx.myfritz.net | 11111 ..........| siahosting.dnsupdater.de:11111
    .............................................| 99999 .........| siahosting.dnsupdater.de:99999

If you click the double arrow, the ports should not be reachable yet - that's ok.

    9. You have to release this ports for your RasPi as mentioned in point 2. As pattern use "http://". The previously selected port release can be deleted. The double arrow from the ports are still not available - that's ok.

    10. Now create a FreeDNS account on freedns.afraid.org. Do not use more than 16 characters for the account password and only lower case letters and numbers, otherwise SiaBerryOS will strike later. You don't have to do anything else. I haven't tested it, but the registration might not be necessary.

    11. In your interface of SiaBerryOS at the tab "OS Settings" set the RPC port to your portmapper port "11111" and the host port to "99999". After a restart the two ports should be accessible in your portmapper (double arrow) at fest-ip.net.

    12. in line FreeDNS Account at SiaBerryOS tab "OS Settings" you enter your FreeDNS-ID and your password. You take the domain from your portmapper "IPv4 Mapping über" without the colon and port. "siahosting.dnsupdater.de" Set it!

    13. Restart your SiaBerryOS. The RaspPi should be able to connect the sia network. Might take a couple of minutes.

Updating your IP address does MyFritz! and you don't need an additional DDNS server (actually freedns.afraid.org was implemented to do so by the developer).

    First revenue reported.

Time passes fast. Especially if nothing exceptional happens and all is working.
The only thing changed from that time is:

    1. the 1.3.1 version was released and i have "upgraded" my host to it (from the release candidate/test version),
    2. The Sia coin price has increased so that my host is insane expensive again. So I occasionally reduce my storage pricing in small steps, now it is 365SC/TB/Month.
Alltogether my host is hovering between #240 and #270 in the host score ranking.
