SIA Hosting Earnings

  • Hi SIA Community,

so far nowbody could give me an answer how host earnings are calulated.
Thats why i wanted to ask the forum community.

Can anybody explain how the "expected SIA" is calculated in SIA UI on a Host?

For example in my case i have a 230GB Storage. 31GB are used.
Price is 1800SC / TB / Month and Bandwithprice is 250 SC / TB.
how are the 9599 SC calculated? This cant be right with just a usage of 31 GB right?

Can anybody give some insights on the calculation in detail?

    Thanks a lot

  • I suggested to the owner of this forum a very quick introduction to how sia works from a usage and earnings/cost perspective... I was adviced a long technical description totally un understandable... I think your questions are very relevant, also what makes a good host? What is a contract and how is it established (I saw that closing sia an restatring it, it simply poured contracts in very quickely). What drives the recommended price, what's the story behind collatteral and when how do you get it back. When is revenue recogniced (I have the same picture as you, a quite large amount as estimation, but no real income yet)... SIA-responsible, why don't once for all make a write up, not so technically, not so long that answers simle questions. I guess you will keep pn getting those answers, since SIA is not so transparrant as eg. storg, where you get paied monthly..

  • See the Wiki for some details how everything works: https://siawiki.tech/

And if you type host -v in your UI terminal you will see some breakdown of earnings. In my case it looks like this:

    Host Financials:
    Contract Count: 4783
    Transaction Fee Compensation: 690 SC
    Potential Fee Compensation: 18.78 KS
    Transaction Fee Expenses: 0 H

    Storage Revenue: 398.3 SC
    Potential Storage Revenue: 5.365 KS

    Locked Collateral: 7.08 KS
    Risked Collateral: 1.34 KS
    Lost Collateral: 4.309 SC

    Download Revenue: 1.586 SC
    Potential Download Revenue: 2.759 SC
    Upload Revenue : 9.859 SC
    Potential Upload Revenue: 6.23 SC

My host tab tells me: 1099.71 SC earned, so i guess that's the following entries summed up:

    • Transaction Fee Compensation: 690 SC
    • Storage Revenue: 398.3 SC
    • Download Revenue: 1.586 SC
    • Upload Revenue : 9.859 SC

  • Hi larsfloe,
    hi betaboot,

i totally agree with you @larsfloe . There should be a paper or a guide where
the calculations for the offering are discribed clearly. This is all just guessing otherwise.
Hopefully something like that will be published soon.

Thanks for your feedback @betaboot. I already know that command and used it.
But the question would be where do the numbers come from. How is it calculated.
Like in my case. I do not get it how i can get 9600 SC with providing 31GB of storage + up and download.

Can anybody else give insights in the calculation of "expected earnings" for hosts? @Taek @Core-Dev

    Thanks
    kreiseda

  • At first you are just guessing what is reasonable so it would be helpful to know whether your selections are competitive or not by seeing what other contracts are currently active.
