Incorrect Password [error]

  • I installed sia on two computers, one on OSX and one on windows 7. After creating the wallet I locked it with a password (I know what it is) - my windows system sia crashed with an error, and said to report it. I restarted the system, but the client will not unlock the wallet, it keeps saying my wallet password is incorrect. I uninstalled sia, downloaded the new version (today), but it still says the password in incorrect.

Over on the OSX client - I have no problem at all, it unlocks fine, I don't seem to be able to fully uninstall the client.

I can no longer use my windows machine with sia. What do I do ?

If you load your wallet from seed, your seed is your password. Using the same seed on two computer is not recommended especially if you are renting or hosting.

  • Hi, at the moment I am only mining. The problem is I can't recover from the seed on my windows 7 install.

I only installed sia on osx to test I was right. Which I am am, as in something is wrong with the win7 sia install. However removing and installing it does not fix the problem.

Do you have a solution ?

  • I re-read my post & Just to be clear - its not the actual recovery of the seed that is the problem, Its the lock password that windows says is wrong, yet OSX will accept and unlock.

error when calling /wallet/unlock: provided encryption key is incorrect

That is not true - I know the password but this install is refusing to accept it.

  • I can only guess that you don't know what's wrong.

To remove your wallet and load your seed

    • Launch Sia-UI,
    • Go to the About tab and then click the Show Sia Data button.
    • Quit Sia-UI completely (Make sure it is not running at your system tray at the bottom right corner)
    • Navigate into the subfolder until you see a folder named wallet and delete the wallet folder
    • Relaunch Sia-UI
    • Click Load a wallet from seed at the wallet tab
    • Use your seed as your password after that

  • Ok done that - and then it requires the unlock password - which then it rejects as wrong when in fact it is correct.

    Now What ??????

Ok I have sorted it. This is what turned out to be my issue.

I had previously entered my own password lock, and initially thought that was the password - then after your advice I used the seed - this also resulted in a password error.

So around I went, keep deleting the sia files, entering the seed waiting for the chain to sync - pasting the seed in the password box - getting a password error etc.

Turns out that once I had pasted the seed in to recover, the password box would reject the password if I simply pressed Ctrl+V using the seed already in the clipboard from when I first copied it.

Turns out I had to re-copy the seed, back in to the clipboard and then paste in to the password box. Then and only then would it scan the block chain for my measly SiaCoin.
And I had to that twice, rejecting it the first time - so it takes two attempts before it accepts it.

    All sorted, now....

    Thanks
    Ump....
