Siad sending large amount of data through network

  • I am currently hosting with 22 contracts active and only 880 MB filled on my available 5 TB folder. Siad will consistently be uploading (according to Windows task manager) 12 Mbps. This has become an issue because I have blown through 1 TB of data from my ISP in one month and currently on track to do it again. If this keeps up my internet service provider will begin to charge me overages. Any ideas on why this is happening?

I did stop accepting contracts and it seems like it intermittently jumps from 0.1 to 12 Mbps, but this has not fixed the problem.

Details: Windows 10, Sia Wallet Version: 1.3.1 Sia UI version: v1.3.1-rc3

  • I have a similar situation goin on. Since last 30+ hours SiaUI is writing data to my NAS at 9 MB/s speed. Just few moment back, when I checked my managed switch settings, it says that my laptop(where only SiaUI is an application) has so far downloaded 60.1 GB of data so far.

So why SiaUI has so far saved 2.29 TB of data on my NAS and still doing so at the time of writing this response.

Thing to note that only SiaUI has been configured to write to that 2.7 TB of NAS space. Even Window shows that SiaUI is running with 4 GB (GigaBytes) of RAM.

This is because you are uploading the consensus file to help others to sync their Sia-UI/siad. Port 9981 is the gateway port and port 9982 is for hosting. Try closing port 9981 if you do not want to seed the network.

thanks for this response. But seems that @SiaOne problem is "uploading to internet".
    My is opposite.

    Any idea?

  • @SandBlock
Thanks, I think it worked. I just blocked the connection using the firewall settings and the data usage has dropped significantly in the past 24 hrs. I still have a host connection active as well.

  • @premkumar
Are you fully synced? If you are hosting, it may be renters uploading data to your host(which means that you are downloading), Sia will use all your available RAM to load the consensus file but when others applications need RAM, it will free itself so no worries.

    Just curious.

If every host stops 9981 port then how will a existing host or a new host will sync ?

  • Hi,

after reading this post I've checked the network usage on my sia host. And there was a huge increase of traffic sent on port 9881 starting at the beginning of the month. At the 14th I've limited the traffic sent from port 9881 to 1Mbit/s.

Are these allnew hosts downloading the blockchain? Or could this be some type of DOS/Flood-attack using SIA gateways?
