New on SIA-UI

  • Hi There, I'm new here and I have some maybe standard questions.
I have downloaded SIA-UI on my laptop because I would like to rent my free NAS space of my 2 NAS devices.
I created an wallet and have Siacoin in my wallet.

Do I understand it correctly that via this program I can do this?
Or is it dependable on the brand of NAS?
You need to put software seperately on the NAS?

  • @Pilske You can definitely use NAS.

I have done the exactly same.

    Two options -

    1. If you NAS supports LUN. Then create a LUN/iTarget. Connect this LUN to your windows laptop which will ultimately act as E:\ , F:\ or similar drive name. This is the one of the best way to share NAS to Windows. and then using that drive as shared space to Sia UI
    2. Create a folder and share it on your nas. It will be visible to your windows as something like \YourServerName\sharedDriveName
In the SiaUI you can refer this shared drive.

Step#1 , is what I have done. Step#2 is fully logically possible, however I have not done this way.

I have 2 Nas device. I hope they can run Lun.
Is that the same as iSCSI?
I added on the 2 devices an ISCSI disk met for exemple 1GB.
I cannot see them on my laptop? Please help.

When I get this all done I also want to buy an HP minebox

Also when I would like to host my Nas space. Do I need to do something with settings in my internet router?

  • @premkumar
I manage to make an 500GB share on my NAS.
Do I understand it correcty that:
    (1) I have to map this on my laptop?
    (2) when everything is set perefectly you have to let your laptop on 24/7hour? Because you need to run the sia-ui programm with the wallet onlocked?
Or does SIA-ui talks now with the NAS via de IP adress?

  • I managed to get an share, my wallet is filled with siacoin.
    But I get the message":
Host unreachable:Your host is not connectable at the configured net address.
Check your UPNP or NAT settings.

    Please help

  • Hey,
Sorry for this late response as I originally thought that I will get notification via email, but thinks No. I have to manually check on the site.
I am combining my answers for all of your 3 questions in this single response.

    1. Yes, it is iSCSI. Generally you create a LUN and then you create a iSCSI target. You then map your LUN to this iSCSI target. This target will be visibile to your windows computer.
    2. In your windows 10 (I assume you have windows 10) probably in windows 7 too, in start, search “iSCSI Initiator”. You will need to open this small tool.
    3. Copy the full iSCSI target name from NAS and paste in this tool of windows and then do a quick search. You shold be able to see the LUN then. If not, then past the IP address of NAS and you should be able to see all of Target. Go ahead from there, few more steps which is self-explanatory.
    4. Once successfully done in this window’s tool. Windows will consider that you have physically attached a new HardDisk. So the next step is to format that hard disk using windows another starndard tool and then assign a D:\ or E:\ or similar name. You are done.
    5. Yes, when everything is mapped perfectly, you have to let your computer run for 24x7. “Everything is done “assumes that you have configured several setting in SiaUI too. One of those steps is to tell SiaUI that it refer that newly created D:\ or E:\ as storage space.
    6. “Host unreachable:Your host is not connectable at the configured net address.
Check your UPNP or NAT settings.” –
Yes, you must have to permanently open the port 9982 and one more (I am forgetting) port in your router. This is relatively simple. A google for this step will get you help. Note that if you have more than 2 router in your home, then this step must be done on the both router.

You must have separate router, switches, NAS, Siaserver to act as good and long term SiaHOST. What are thebenifits of such infrastructure? Then check my where I have explain the details in bit more depth. You will need to click - my webs link to know this.

    15
Price per TB per Month (SC)
    325

    Bandwidth Price (SC/TB)
    5
    Accepting Contracts
    Conversion Rate
    0%

  • Good.
It on your own now. :)
But be careful, due to the several architecutral restrictions of the SiaUI App. once you setup the server in your system (all the physical components you will be using), you are done.

Any thing you are building, keep a prime factor in the mind, you will be using the same system as prod. Don't do any mistake which you can't further change.

There are several things I did not took care while begining and now I can't change.
