Max number of contracts limited?!

  • Hello, I am new to Sia and running a host since about 1 month. Till last week all worked fine and the number of contracts was getting higher every day. A few days ago it showed 1000 contracts and get stuck at that. After a restart of the SIA-UI (Windows) it showed after syncing 405 contracts and now it's still the same today. I've updated to newest wallet, but still the same. At the moment I am number 20 of all hosts (siacoin.perfectfitsolutions.at). Data is still going up, but slower than before...
Is there a limit of active contracts?! Didn't find anything on the official sites. On the wallet are enough siacoins left (>35000) to pay new collateral on contracts!
    Please help! Thanks!

  • Up until version 1.3.0 Sia had a bug counting the contracts, and it would only show the correct number right after restarting. I hear the latest version fixed this.

TL;DR: 1000 was a lie, 405 is likely correct. Upgrade to the latest version.

  • I am now at the latest version (1.3.1) and the number of contracts is still at 405 (same after restarting Sia-UI). Amount of data is growing (slowly). On Siahub.info it shows almost "correct" uptime (https://siahub.info/host/7586) (well I was not down for 3 days, but I know it counts the up-/downtime not exactly).
I am not happy with that, don't know what's wrong here, maybe a complete fresh install can help?!

  • So nobody can help me with that?!

  • You don't need help, everything is alright, as I said above. Also, to be very clear, there is no limit of active contracts.

What else do you feel you need help with?

  • @maol
I don't know, but I think there is something wrong, why was the data usage and number of contracts going up so fast in the beginning (https://siahub.info/host/7586) and now it's nearly stuck at 420GB?
I am using the latest version of the wallet and you wrote that the latest version should fix the issue of counting contracts, but my number is constant at 405?! I am now at rank 8 in the list of hosts, but don't get new contracts and only a few GB/week additionally, so I am thinking there is something wrong, or is this normal, that a new host get's a lot of data and contracts in the beginning and then nothing new for a long time? Is the usage of Sia that low?
Sorry if I am asking stupid questions, but I am new to Sia and want to share my space in a professional way to support the Sia network, because the idea of Sia is great!

That's great, that's how we all started!

I'm seeing the same things - my host also doesn't get any new contracts and almost no data uploaded on the existing contracts. Even from prior to the 1.3.1 release. I'm assuming this is because there's not a lot of users on the network.

You can monitor the data on https://siahub.info/network to see if that's a reasonable explanation, else it may be worth asking the (more active) Sia hoster community on Discord about their experience.

  • ok, so it seems that it's normal, that you get a lot of contracts in the beginning to reach equality with other hosts with a score similar to you and then it depends on the amount of new users how your data usage grows. OK, that would make sense, but I've not found anything like that in the docs. Thanks anyway ;-)

  • It's not in the docs yet but can be extrapolated as the network is currently very underutilized. We'll see that change as improvements keep being made. We won't see the available storage % drop much until there are many many more integrations made and it can host/stream/share whatever with whoever. Long term is the game Sia is playing :)
