First time user - So many questions
-
Now close to the 1.0 release in June I did think it was a good idea to test the SIA-project, but I think that either I did not find all the needed documentation, or you must have some much needed descriptions on the way, if you hope that SIA will be used by the many.
1: Why do I have to set allowance ? And will the allowance go anywhere ?
2: First time I tried to set the allowance I got a list of messages like
siac renter setallowance 4000KS 1
Could not set allowance: could not form any contracts:
162.222.23.93:9982: insufficient balance
139.162.152.204:9982: insufficient balance
85.218.210.34:9982: insufficient balance
73.69.100.22:9982: insufficient balance
95.147.183.19:9982: insufficient balance
196.210.176.12:9982: insufficient balance
82.220.99.82:9982: insufficient balance
138.201.13.159:9982: dial tcp 138.201.13.159:9982: i/o timeout
.....
3: When I have booted my pc and have to unlock my wallet I can do it in 4 different ways, but no clear explanation of how to do it, and worse is that when the right one is done the wallet is empty - even with siad running and an up-to-date chain, takes long time before the account is updated.
4: In general it would be nice with some information, if 12 peers is need then color it red until there are 12 etc.
5: No information when running siad
6: Until now I haven't found the list of commands for siac - when I enter a wrong command it tells me to use wallet --help like
siac renter setallowance 4000 1
Could not parse amount: amount is missing units; run 'wallet --help' for a list of units
7: When creating the wallet I get 25 wallets, I would like just to see one - all the others you should manage behind the scenes.
8: Useability in the GUI-client need a makeover. It did take me ages to figure out how to create a folder
9: Version of Sia-UI is still 0.5.2 but seems to be working with sia 0.6.0
10: I found a miner and let it run, but do not expect any return as difficulty is to high. Is it intentionally that the ordinary user should not be concerned about mining?
11: Found the Miner plugin for the Sia-UI but, when I click on start I just get a message Miner is Loading, and there it stays - does that mean it is running or does it mean it is loading ?
12: How do I tell Sia, that I have 1 TB of Data I will rent to others in 1 month blocks of 10 GB? When I click on hosting and Annouce I can enter an URL but it is not mandatory, is that my public IP (Then show it) or is a host name needed, or can I leave it blank?
13: On the hosting page I have the following text: undefined Contracts | undefined/undefined in use | undefined earned | undefined to be earned. Is this an error or just because I haven't earned anything ?
14: I saw a notice that the white paper was outdated, and it is understandable it is difficult to find time to update it, but then you should at least find time to update the user documentation
15: I have now been stuck on 8 peers for more than 3 hours - and get the error - not enough contracts
16: Where can I find the best Intensity to use for mining ? 16, 20, 24 or something differentAnd finally, how do I set the right price for renting out my storage ? In fact I just want to swap my internal storage with some external storage - replicated 6 times
Maybe all these stupid questions just because the target that originally was large storage centers, now includes small end-users like me.
Best regards
Thorvald

Forgot the problem becomming a host as I need SiaCoins to make the Allowance, and found a single faucet, but that required me to announce my host and to announce I need SiaCoins. So I ended up buying on Polo, but this will probably prevent most users from becomming a host

Yup, WAY too many questions for a single thread... Try to focus related questions into one thread (or better, one issue/thread; e.g. host issues, mining issues, uploading, synching etc).
As for you first error, this might be because hosts don't have enough Siacoins to actually place the collateral. This is a little advertised MAJOR change in 0.6.0. Hosts now need to place a collateral for every storage contract made. The hosts wallet thus needs to be funded.

So let me just rephrase this to one single question: What improvements will the 1.0 that will be released next month include, as the current beta is very long from what I see as a production system.
-
Some notable changes that will come by 1.0 (most features probably in minor releases before that):
Full API backward compatibility - very important for developers
Auto-renew on the renter side (currently only implemented on the host)
Updated UIThere may be more. See Taek's earlier roadmap post, here:

We're hoping to get auto-renew done by v0.6.1, which is aimed at this Tuesday.
I don't think we can make June 7th for 1.0. But June 14th seems achievable. We will see. Everyone is definitely working hard to make this happen quickly, without sacrificing quality.
